Grrrr got my tax return back and as expected, my bloody super deduction is not available and I owe them a huge chunk now AND I’m out of pocket for the substantial amount I deposited… guess I will have to make those phone calls when it’s 8am. Not happy Jan. I foresee a lot of “no you need to contact ATO!”, “no you need to contact your super fund!” back and forth…
E: and it’s been three hours now, 4:30am and I can’t get back to sleep. Do they put something in these pizzas?
24 minute wait to get a call back then a 15 minute call from the ATO done, now on hold with the super fund with three callers ahead of me in the queue… blaaah… At least the ATO staff member was super helpful and escalated my issue but she did say the super fund still needs to report the contribution before anything can be processed. I have Words for the super fund about not being clear regarding how soon they send contribution info to the ATO
They haven’t put in a due date yet but typically I think you have until 21 November unless you filed with an agent and/or have requested a payment plan.
I filed the return myself, followed all the instructions to a tee, turns out my super fund is not being very truthful or clear about how quickly they then send that info to the ATO.
It appears to be very rare for the contributions to not show up with the ATO, according to both the ATO, the super fund and two accountants I spoke to, and there is no paperwork to “see” really (everything was good on paper) but thanks for the condescension anyway I guess
apologies, wasn’t meaning to be condescending. Was meant to be more commiserating with a “Never trust the bastards, they will get you any way they can” sorta vibe
I am guessing the tax return was filed before the notice of intent to claim the super was done. You can’t claim Super as a deduction on your tax return until the Super fund has taken out the 15% tax and processed it as a concessional contribution.
No, I filed the tax return well after the NOICC was done and I received an acknowledgement. But the super fund has still not submitted the data to the ATO despite repeatedly saying they did on the phone when I noticed the discrepancy

Grrr indeed. Good luck with your obnoxious adulting tasks.
Oh no that’s so annoying 😭

Shit. I hope you’ll be able to sort it out.
Out of curiosity when were they wanting you to pay the bill by not that you have to because of what your superfund has done to you.

'ang on, they can’t file your return without your auth, can they?

ahhh. Rookie mistake. Trust no one until you see the paperwork for yourself.
