In the rest of the western world, centrist US Democrats are definitely moderate-right.

Generally, centrists look at holding a degree of conservatism with the idea that ultimately progressing is a very good thing at the end of the day. They usually don’t block progress, they just influence the rate or level of it, generally concerned of too much or too quick.

US centrists are definitely not this. Many US leftists are not this. The US Democratic Party is seen as light to moderate right-wing. The Republican being (one of) the most extreme right-wing in the developed world.

Edit: Oh my. The thumbs get a bit large on the phone’s soft keys after some wines.

I’d like to add, genuine centrists should get the praise they deserve at times. They are the most level-headed and least selfish in their intent—again “genuine centrists” not the common US variety.

However, they are not the people you want in charge of getting out of situations that require immediate action. They’re like the “We should split up to cover more ground” person in horror films. While other times being the “We should split up to flank them” person when other fools want to rush in. They’re typically not someone you want to be, but at times they’re someone you’re glad was there. They’re the most likely to be in a “I told you so” position to lefts and rights. Smarmy twats…

It’s hard to imagine, but the world would be so much more divided and chaotic without them. Just be wary of anyone that claims to be a centrist but clearly isn’t. It is often used fallaciously.

Edit Edit: Having said that, I say this from a position people would say is left-centrist. In the US I would be considered moderate-left to “a spineless limp-wristed hippie socialist” depending on who you asked. But I’m entirely opposed to the concept of a two-dimensional spectrum when it comes to political and social views. It’s so basic and outdated. People that conform to that ideaoogy are literally simpletons. It’s just easy to use for a fly-by situation report before getting into the actual details. As such, centrism is more “misc” than it is grey.

Some pure transparency of my opinions for y’all. Refreshing, ain’t it?

The US Democrats are more like far right with gay rights imo. Invading foreign countries all the time, rampant neoliberalism, some pretense around fighting racism but enabling systemic racism, priding themselves in mass deportations, prevention of universal healthcare, upholding a debt driven for profit higher education system…

They usually don’t block progress, they just influence the rate or level of it, generally concerned off too much or too quick.

Those are the exact same thing.

points to pile of bricks on the ground

“Damn. That solid wall has stopped any further progress.”
