Nothing else has the traction yet to replace the utility of Twitter for news organizations unfortunately

      This is the real answer.

Twitter is unfortunately still where the majority of users are. Might not be right or good, but it’s true. I’d bet most people get the majority of news/announcements from some form of social media these days.

Mastodon is still far from critical mass of users. Most “influencers” or news organizations aren’t going to move to a significantly smaller platform with much worse discoverability.

Until something takes the users from Twitter it’s still going to be the primary spot for a lot of the internet.

And that’s fine. What’s not fine is not really trying to engage with alternatives. No one is on mastodon because no one is on mastodon.

How hard would it be for TMR to create a single acct on a major instance and have their social media person ctrl-c ctrl-v the major tweets etc? Not everyone, not everything, not at first. But have a minimal presence to foster engagement. We gotta be the change we wanna see.

If simple techy youtubers like @geerlingguy@mastodon.social and @ActionRetro@bitbang.social / @ActionRetro@lemmy.world can make the time. The MR crew could too.
