It was unclear how the agency would respond. Democratic lawmakers left the state to stop Republicans from redrawing district maps to their advantage.
Welcome to the Fascist States of America
Texas has done this type of shit before. It just feels gross now
More gross.
It’s always been gross, and I never touched that state with a 10 meter pole.
Now, in theory at least, do they even have the authority/jurisdiction/whatever to execute a state warrant, let alone “civil warrant”?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they’ll respect the law. Just curious if anybody here has info…
Is this the weird politic stunt they can do to postpone a law or something? A bit like talking for 36 hours or similar?
I remember republicans doing it, IIRC, I’m not American.
Yes, some state legislatures can’t pass any law unless some fraction of their members are present. So the minority can block a law by leaving the state and refusing to show up.
Given that the law in question is to gerrymander even more Democrats out of their seats, it makes sense to simply refuse to be in Texas
This is a very serious gerrymander as well. The current house seats from texas are 65% GOP to 35% DNC. This would push them to 75% GOP and 25% DNC.
Do you know how texas votes statewide? 56.1% GOP. Yea, texas is already gerrymandered to fuck, they just want to fuck it way, way more.
Good on the dems to fight for actual representation.
Not gerrymandering just a change in registered voters. Now California is threatening to gerrymander. Real surprising.
