We receive a lot of reports from this community, and we get the impression that the current rules and moderation capabilities aren’t sufficient for a community like this. While things are quieter right now, during periods of activity this community tends to cause unnecessary strain on the lemmy.ca admin team.
Having additional moderators could help with this, as well as having a more comprehensive set of rules. That way, the community’s mod team can go through the queue more quickly and also take action on users that abuse the reports.
For the sake of a productive discussion, please limit comments in this thread to discussions on how to improve this community, without directly pointing to specific users or situations. Ideally, this will also help to develop better rules (think ‘veil of ignorance’).
Putting “drama” in the community name summons drama. It’s mean spirited. It’s always going to generate problems. It is frequently weaponized to amplify the drama in other communities. And for what?
Documenting and discussing the events of the Fediverse, and wallowing in the drama are two different things. One has societal value, and the other hurts the participants and the subjects.
Very much agree with this. Why does such a community exist? To talk shit instead of choosing to ignore others or working on addressing the conflict if you feel you can’t let go.
Communities like this drive harassment because when there is a popular post against someone, some people assume it must be accurate or valid and pile on. It’s incredibly unwelcoming.
There is a difference between “gotcha, I am very smart” and “this is harmful content/a person that harms the community - be wary”.
Edit: LMAO exactly this kind of shit: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/50173159
People are still talking about vtc for whatever reason, it makes sense Hamid’s going to hear about it (people have community outside of lemmy??? Weird right?). I’d probably try and rile them up too. It’s really wild.
feeling called out
Am I missing something. It shows up as fediverselore on my frontend?
The community logo is a bucket of popcorn. No one can pretend the point isn’t to stir shit.
When I am going to watch a film, I go to a cinema, buy a ticket and a bucket of popcorn. I don’t stir a movie - the director, actors and other people already have done it for my enjoyment.
One does not stir a drama using popcorn. One brings it when the drama already happened, made by drama perpetrators and participants. We (FediLore participants) are meant not do make drama, but rather to watch it develop.
This isn’t literal popcorn that people eat at the cinema. This is metaphorical popcorn that people metaphorically eat to exalt in their schadenfreude. As you probably well grasp. It’s a metaphor that dehumanizes and humiliates the posts’ subjects, casting them not as real people with real feelings, but mere entertainment for our amusement. That’s fucking shitty.
I invite you to review the posts in this community (or have an AI comprehensively do so) and then tell me that this community does not stir drama.
