I find it interesting that you picked possibly the best picture I’ve ever seen of Marina Sirtis and possibly the worst picture I’ve ever seen of Jeri Ryan. Two very different photos taken under very different conditions, with very different lighting, etc. Could OP be a little biased, perhaps?

First, thanks for the fixes. As far as the donations, I’m currently donating through github. I’ve never used the ones you mentioned. In theory, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but I’m not familiar with them.

I’d like to know they are safe. Both from the perspective of keeping my data secure, and knowing that they’re not going to blast me with sketchy ads or malware when I visit them to set things up.

If you’re just looking to save a click, you can just go into your settings (click on your username in the top right and choose settings) and check the ‘auto-expand pictures’ box.

If you want to improve the overall experience, there are a number of options that I think will work with any browser you like. Personally, I use Firefox. I then add the Tampermonkey user scripting extension, with the LemmyTools and lemmy-keyboard-navigation scripts. Plus the ImagusMod extension which displays full images and videos on mouseovers.

FYI: The quote is not really from House of Cards. It’s often attributed to Oscar Wilde (which is who I thought originally said it), but it turns out that’s apocryphal and there’s no basis to it. As far as the sentiment itself… I think it’s clever, and I do think there’s some amount of truth to it, but I don’t think it holds true 100% of the time. I think it’s a reasonable default position, but every so often humans have unexpected intentions.

Once again, thanks for all your time and effort keeping this instance going. And for being transparent about its workings and admin decision-making.

I think a post like this would be good to have at least monthly, with ad-hoc posts more frequently as site changes dictate.

I think a lot of the dead communities were created by folks fleeing from reddit and creating one for one placeholders for subreddits. Unfortunately, many of them have seen no activity and who knows if the creators are even around to mod them. If suggest a bulk email to those creators giving them 15 days to show some activity or the comm will be deleted (and follow thru).

I’d volunteer to help with admin or moderation, but I don’t know rust, I’m not a developer in any way, shape, or form, and I have very little time. For now I think my contribution will have to be monetary only. Good luck finding someone though!
