4·3 days agoNope, they are not. It’s a little bit complicated: They are getting funded directly by the government, but are not controlled by them directly.

Europe@feddit.org•Britons face up to six-hour waits at airports due to EU border checksEnglish
112·3 days agoTBH: Fuck those border guards. Fuck those security guys. Fuck airlines and fuck airports. They do know which flights are starting every day. They are collecting our data. We forced to enter names, addresses and nationalities into their websites in order to book a ticket. That is going into some international surveillance dystopia.
This is totally a planable demand. You know that the 747 to Paris will start at 14:33 with boarding closing at 13:50 and that 221 EU citizen and 112 Non-EU citizen are scheduled to be on there and that they will arrive in the hours before boarding. So why the fuck do they not have the staff available to do whatever they are checking in a reasonable time? Yes, there might be that one guy causing trouble, but that is also expected an can be dealt with. A six-hour wait? That is failing at their job and whoever is introducing a six hour wait time at an airport should be banned from ever running an airport again.

So yeah, this post also looks like propaganda shit.

Europe@feddit.org•How campaigners beat industrial farming in Denmark’s ‘pig election’English
1·4 days agoYes and no. The thing about promoting a vegetarian diet is that you skip an additional step in producing the food. If you grow the plants, you may need fertilizer and that is affected by energy prices. But if you feed that plant to a cow, the cow is really inefficient in converting that plant into meat, like every animal. And raising cows also needs additional fossil input, f.e. for heating stables.

58·4 days agoThat’s the neat thing about this: If you license out your name, your name is on the device. Those licensees profit from your name, from your brand. If you license out your name to some shit company, you totally deserve that everybody does think that you are some shit company

Europe@feddit.org•‘Görli is our garden’: Berliners fight to stop mayor locking their park at nightEnglish
12·4 days agoIt’s a total farce. That park is approx. 200m wide and 1km long. Which is really, really not that big. The discussion around that thing has been going on for years and us Non-Berliner were bombarded with hundreds (yes!) of articles about this fucking park. Even the Guardian is now writing one. Not sure why the police is unable to secure this park - even a few officials patrolling the area should be enough to stop crimes happening from there, because the area is really, really small.

4·10 days agoTBH, that’s the best way to deal with the Trump administration. Try to get away as far as possible. Try to get out of those dependences. But do not talk loud about it, because if so, the demented orange will totally attack you.

Europe@feddit.org•The UK has 90 different taxes. France has 348. Germany has 60. Why?English
4·11 days agoThat’s a perfect example:
- There is the general alcohol tax
- There is this sparkling drinks tax introduced to finance the Kaisers navy. Which really is stupid to have and maybe should be abolished
- There is the “Alcopop” tax which totally managed to kill this category of drinks as intended
So yeah, a little bit mixed. And i kind of disagree that this is too complicated. If you’re a supermarket or some kiosk, your supplier will provide you with the necessary information about the product. The Schaumweinsteuer, Biersteuer and Alcopop-Steuer are taxed directly at the producer level. Yes, you may need to deal with the beer tax when operation a brewery, but that really is not that complicated.

Europe@feddit.org•The UK has 90 different taxes. France has 348. Germany has 60. Why?English
151·11 days agoWhat kind of framing is this? The number of taxes really doesn’t matter and it also makes sense for a country to have a lot of taxes in its books. Taxes can totally steer people into a desired direction and it makes sense for a country to have a lot of taxes. Not to finacne the government, but to make undesired stuff like cigarettes or alcohol. Maybe you could finance your country with VAT only, but that would also mean that cigarettes would be dirt cheap and that your citizens will die of cancer

9·12 days agoThat’s the problem with Berlin for the rest of Germany: All foreign correspondents are there. Many of the big media houses have their offices there. And it’s in the middle of fucking nowhere somewhere in the sands of Brandenburg. People from Berlin also really, really like to talk about Berlin.
Most Germans do live somewhere else and Berlin really is overrepresented in the media.

Europe@feddit.org•The Low-Down: Ukraine's Drones Are Breaking Russia's Defenses. The Kremlin Has No AnswersEnglish
6·12 days agoIt’s kind of like this right now, people just haven’t noticed. When the war ends, Russia will be in shambles. They have broken their military might and destroyed the old soviet stockpiles. The black sea fleet does not exist anymore. Their air force is gone. They have no tanks left. They have taken 1.3 million casualties. Nearly all oil refineries were bombed together with a lot of the other oil infrastructure. Key factories are gone. Millions of people have fled the country.
And then there are the things they did at the start of the war: Does anybody really think that they will be able to lease modern civilian aircrafts after the war after having stolen hundreds of them? Will Europe really start to buy russian gas again after having found other suppliers that do not threaten them and having ramped up renewables? Will international companies really go back after having had all their current business stolen?

Yeah, that is so crazy. You’ll see some random picture with some idiotic story pasted to it. No sources. Two sentences. And people believe what they are seeing and will totally be enranged about the picture.
