What it actually means to be a soldier vs the ideal that the individual soldier joined for will vary from one soldier to another: the ones I’m addressing are those who fell for the propaganda and joined under the belief that they’re accomplishing some good. Being duped doesn’t make them irredeemable.

Propaganda’s a hell of a drug. We’re raised under the belief that we’re surrounded by aggressors, and that military personnel are some kind of heroic defender: that joining is an act of service and altruism.

It’s bullshit, and people join for a lot of shitty reasons too, but to say there’s no decent people in the military is incorrect. Even if they’re a minority, there are people feeling the conflict between their oath and their orders: those people are potential allies, and should be encouraged to step up.

Demonizing them is counterproductive, even if encouraging them has been fruitless thus far. All we need is for a single one of them to take their oath seriously.

No idea. I think the pitch was for them to be biodegradable in a fairly short timespan, so I’d guess they don’t hold up well to sustained moisture. If you washed them immediately after using and then dry them off, you could probably get some reusability out of them. They’re not like that horrible paper shit that starts falling apart mid-use, but only ever used them after they were provided when ordering takeout - used em once and threw them out.

Food aside, I’ve used disposable spoons/forks/knives made of potato as a plastic alternative. Unlike pretty much every similar product that has a weird taste/texture or shit durability, the potato ones were pretty much indistinguishable from plastic except that the texture was kinda higher traction if that makes any sense. Like it’d kinda grab your lips a bit as they were sliding across a spoon, vs the plastic version is slightly less friction.

But, you stop noticing that after like the third bite.

Haven’t seen them used in years, so no idea if they’re still being produced, but it seemed like a golden standard to replace plastic the few times I used it.

We had a lot of assignments to find and present data on some disease process or drug or intervention etc. Actually finding credible sources and picking out the data we need and putting it on paper is a super tedious process, and my classmates LOVED zipping through that stuff with some AI shit. And they’d get 100s on their assignments, and everything was just rainbows and unicorn farts… up until test day, where they’d fail or barely pass. Now several of them are struggling to pass the NCLEX.

Drives me insane. Like, you mother fuckers aren’t here to get a grade, you’re here to learn this shit so you know what to do when you see it in whatever hospital hires your dumb ass.
