This reminds me of Inconstant Moon by Larry Niven! Time for a reread.

How about slightly below both but with some solid executive functioning and 0 mood disorders? I’ll take that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•This is a thought experiment "Ball on a Table" for detecting whether someone has Aphantasia. What do you see when you perform this experiment?
1·1 year agoAll these details were present from only reading the title:
A very large and heavy marble that you’d need to pick up with both hands to hold. A man was already there keeping a hand on the marble, to prevent it from rolling on the wooden table. The table is simple, square and has 4 legs. I know what the marble would sound like if it were to roll, bumping over the little imperfections. This is happening indoors, but there’s some natural light coming through. The table is relatively close to the edge of a room but you can still approach the table from all sides. The room is mostly undefined besides that. The man is not too detailed, I have a vague awareness of what he is like, but more like a gestalt of him.
After reading the prompt: The man rolled the ball with a soft push. It produced the expected sound and then he stopped it again before it fell. I felt anxiety when the ball rolled, and was relieved when it was stopped. I want to put it on soft cloth so that we can stop worrying about it rolling off the table. There’s soft cloth nearby, and it’s purple felt.
I have hyperfantasia.

Technology@lemmy.world•"Would U.S. tech workers join a union?" survey average: 67% likelyEnglish
12·1 year agoFunny, seeing them at the top gave me a favorable impression of them, but seems to have caused the opposite for you. My impression was probably due to, like someone else said, feeling like maybe they’re not being drilled with as much anti-union propaganda.
But I’m from a place where you have to go out of your way not to be part of a union.
My problem has always been that I find breathing too boring to ever manage to focus on it for any length of time.
Wait, I’m not “young people”? (37)
But like, a prism only reveals what was already inside that light beam.
I was very confused until I realized you mean flat elastic bands which I’m not so familiar with (the ones I’m used to, have square cross sections).

22·2 years agoI’m an old millennial AuDHD and I have to resist the urge to use bold and italics everywhere for different kinds of emphasis. I’d use even more variations when available (text size, colors).
When I was younger, I used to do the same in analog form with multi colored pens when taking notes.
I do, even if it’s a bot, because maybe it’s not. I have worked on 2nd+ line tech support, and I’d often see 1st line getting mistreated by customers. I could never do 1st line.
I was really confused about this apparently nonsensical The Expanse reference until I saw the username of the person you responded to.
My problem is that the "Can you do something about it?" is always unclear, I go back and forth until it consumes my thoughts.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The most relaxing part of driving in a city.
4·2 years agoWhenever we drive through one of these we’re stressed about finding the right exit and the GPS stops working inside the tunnels so we end up coming out where we didn’t mean to.
We don’t own a car or anything anymore, but I really don’t miss these.
Same. My partner and I are engaged but there’s never going to be a diamond in the picture. If they had found the diamond ritual important, we wouldn’t be too compatible.
I also cannot deal with rings in general due to sensory issues.
We do want to find some kind of wearable, interesting symbol though.
I never liked that part about The Matrix. It’d be an extremely inefficient process.
