damn. beat me to it.
I’m hate how I’m actually kinda nostalgic for old commercials now…what have they done to us? What have they done to me?
I want chicken,
I want liver,
meow mix, meow mix,
please deliver.
Absolutely! I was just thinking about this movie, what with the other thread referencing Don Bluth. It’s totally one of those movies that you revisit as an adult and are like: “holy shit, they made this for kids?”
Me then: “hehe, what a silly mouse with his big floppy hat and big floppy ears!”
Me now: “Did this literal children’s movie just teach me about eastern European religious persecution and the exploitation of immigrants in America during the machine politics era?”
Great movie, though. Hot take: I kinda liked Fievel Goes West better than the original, but that might have been because it was the only one we had after our VCR ate the first one…
I totally remember that one! It was absolutely Goosebumps. Solid shout-out to Are You Afraid of the Dark, though. Between the two shows, I think Are You Afraid of the Dark was the better one…
LOL, omg right? The bit where Charlie dreams he’s being sent to hell literally fucked me up as a kid. I had no idea what was going on there, but I wanted no part of that. I used to close my eyes when that part came on screen. 10/10, would let Don Bluth traumatize me as a child again.
Edited to add: I love how the studio execs changed a the tommy gun into a “ray” gun, because that was too scary, but literally let Bluth send the MC to a fully artistically realized hell for an entire scene…
I feel like I remember the TV show more than I remember the books. My sister had a ton of them, though. I do remember having a couple of those “choose your own adventure” ones that I got from the school book fair which were pretty neat. IIRC, there’s one where the kids are turned into dogs or maybe its the other way around. That entire series was a trip. I don’t know what brand of spray paint Stine was huffing in the '90’s but he sure was hitting it hard.
No love for All Dogs Go To Heaven? Literally wore that tape out when I was a kid and we had to get another.
I can’t believe I missed this thread! YES! I actually saved a bunch of the strips from my local paper when I heard that Watterson was going to stop making comics! I bought most of the collections when they came out, including the 10 year anniversary book. I think I’m only missing two.
