So instead of doing a reverse proxy or vpn on self hosted hardware you would be renting linode servers that are already connected. Then you just have to follow the instructions to hook up a domain or add the relevant dns records.

Either way is fine it just depends on what you’re comfortable with and what you have on hand/want to buy.

Careful here. Absolutely start learning bash, but one of the points of Mint is that everything a normal user needs to do can be done through a settings gui. Don’t feel bad for reaching for the gui if you need to get something done and don’t have time right then and there to learn. Have fun!

I know some software engineers like that. Some of it is knowing that the companies that make iot devices don’t give a crap about security. Some of it is plain ol paranoia. Mechanical door locks can be picked does that mean you invest in guard dogs? Crime is a thing but so is misanthropy. Reading this, and remembering the context of the source material, my thoughts deviated to our present day problems. I can’t help but ask myself, “how can humans hate each other and commit the atrocities we do to other ppl?” Especially for totally pointless shit like skin color or what they would like to be called ffs. I had a thought that those ppl are presented with the struggle of life and misplace their angst at the prospect of the daily challenge of self improvement. They don’t hate ppl for the little things, not really, they just don’t know how to use their inner conflict productively.
