I don’t want to beat the dead horse, but IMO the public language/guidance/media discourse regarding the SSA is as misleading as “to protect and to serve”.

If I were pushed I might say that the security part of social security is an implied guarantee that it will provide security of some kind. It does bolster financial security for many at the moment, but there is no guarantee it will do in the future.

Yet they demand our obedience and cooperation.

  • there is no personal account that holds your contributions
  • you have no right to get any of your contributions back in your old age – the benefit is defined by Congress and they could make it whatever they want (including nothing)

In both cases one are required by law to pay but the recipient is not required to perform. As they say, “it’s good to the the king”.

No matter what plugin you find that supposedly will do the job, in my experience it is always a PITA that ends up involving a lot of programming.

Graybeard here, so it’s probably just braindamage specific to me, but I’ve found ruby dependency setup and troubleshooting to be extremely frustrating. Hard for me to wrap my head around.

When jekyll is actually dead (right now it is “only mostly dead”) I’ll change to something that does not require ruby (eleventy?) or just go back to the nineties and do something barebones with gtml or whatever. Already playing with the latter.

• The FCC ham license database is publicly available already, including name and location of the “station”.
• one can munge, obscure, or simply not share location with mesh nodes.

The solar node won’t be more powerful in the “radiated transmission” sense, but will have greater reach because it’s outside. And height is might as meshfolk say.

As others have correctly advised, nrf52-based nodes are power-sippers. This makes them a good fit for solar nodes.

I see some folks on eBay selling $200 home built solar stations. Could anyone recommend any good options for this kind of thing?

I bought one of these from PeakMesh, an etsy/ebay seller. <$100 . Very happy with design, build, performance, and the entire buying experience. I usually prefer to DIY everything but this node checked all my boxes at a sane price.

I’ve run it as a Meshtastic client base and now as Meshcore repeater after bigger dogs on my local mesh went that direction.

The seller is active on reddit as M-growingdesign. He made a post about this particular design in /r/meshtastic. It was basically marketing but there’s a good bit of discussion in the thread, including how he made design decisions.

If the ads for a feed are in a predictable position (like first two minutes, last minute, whatever) one can use sox or similar to trim the file at that point to effectively remove the ads.

But like some of the other commenters here, when the podcast is available by patreon I use that feed and avoid the whole problem.
