202·2 hours agoIf I’m parsing this right… Good? Right after elections is like, the best possible time for critique. Didn’t want to say it yesterday, but fuck blue MAGA the two party system and the rachet effect. There’s no such thing as a good politician, and less bad isn’t enough. Voting is harm reduction, I’m glad we picked methadone over fent but am still looking to get clean.

3·4 hours agoTemperature. People all “it’s too hot, I’m cold” just shut up and go outside already. You can swim, start a fire, get naked, nestle in some brush, there’s nothing to get worked up about. You’re a self-regulating biological process that can both sweat and turn cheese you ate a week ago into heat. Those are turtle problems.

3·4 hours agoI just drive-by shitpost in “all” like the good lord intended
People have covered the hypothetical Dave well enough, I’m more concerned about the freaky hat-washing author here. Real Americans wear their hats until they are lost or destroyed in industrial accidents, and the only patriotic way to acquire a replacement is free with the purchase of tools or equipment. Mine says “Yamaha” and came with an outboard motor in 1999, waterproofing it with locally sourced skull oil was the work of years
Man I want to start off saying this is a good post for the most part, but if you were around for Katrina you would not include concern about fema camps in a list of conspiracy theories. They intentionally dropped levies to drive people from their homes, corralled them in a stadium until they could be shipped off, and started shooting at anyone who escaped that process on sight as a looter. “Follow the money” is always good advice, relief funds were delayed until desperate former residents had to sell the wreckage of their lives to developers for pennies on the dollar and the ghouls who orchestrated the whole scenario made fortunes building luxury homes on stolen land with government money when they finally did come through. People were camping on their own roofs and getting shot at by the national guard. Sorry if I got kinda intense, worst period of a lot of people’s lives.

5·24 hours agoMy only real exposure is helping friends kids with their homework, and it really seemed like they were focused way more on shortcuts to correct answers for simple problems than how and why numbers interact. Which I guess is kinda what you’re saying! Imo those are great techniques for working at a higher level, but in no way a substitute for observing and understanding the processes that lead to those answers. You’ll get plenty of competent accountants that way, but you won’t inspire many mathematicians.

New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•I just started this account last night. I've been a Redditor from February 2013, so how will things be different on Lemmy for Redditors trying to adjust? Also, what are Lemmy users called? Lemmitors?
11·1 day agoIt’s like reddit before Conde Nast. It’s pretty chill, “just post” is the only real advice I’ve got for you. Fingers crossed it never overtakes reddit, thankfully that doesn’t seem to be a goal of many devs or admins. If it starts to, someone will just have to make the next lemmy :p

Why not just wait until they’ve retired, hindsight is 20/20 after all
Or, hear me out, now that they’ve got the job of representing us it’s the perfect time to call them out, hold them accountable, and try to make sure they actually do so
