Habit can be something you noticed about yourself or something that people had to keep telling you about yourself that was true.
I used to suck random dicks in the Walmart bathroom, but now I am under control and only suck random dicks in the Waldorf Astoria bathroom, which is much cleaner.
I got this one… I had a 15+ year opiate addiction. Things got real sketchy near the end. Im only here by the grace of God. Been clean over 3 years.
I also quit smoking after about 15 years too. I do vape. Also, I practically never masterbate anymore.
I used to not wear pants at home. I just could not stand the things, I was like Tarzan.
Smoking. I smoked for 13 years before I finally quit after multiple attempts. So glad I did too, because the cost of cigarettes has become insane.
I smoked for 30 years, but when I moved to a different state, the day I moved is the day I quit smoking. It worked super well. Haven’t smoked since.
Smoking. Took a few tries over many years, but got there in the end.
Also reddit. That was easy when API fee came in. Lemmy is becoming a similar habit though…
Smoking is like an old friend that visits every couple years and stays for a month or so, these days
It’s way too early to say that I have fixed it yet, but I quit a severe, two decade long porn addiction and a decade long daily weed smoking cold turkey a little over month ago and haven’t looked back. I might go back to occasional weed smoking at some point once I’ve truly tasted what life feels like without but with porn I’m not sure if I can go back without it spiraling out of control again.
Cancer. Incurable and inoperable, then somebody invented a thing and now I’ve been in remission for five years.
How is it a habit?
Fuck cancer!

Not taking care of myself. I’ve felt so much better and more confident (and practically reversed type 2 diabetes) since I’ve maintained a consistent strength training routine and eaten healthier.
Congratulations! Happy to hear you started maintaining your health.
Biting my nails. I’m not even sure how or when I quit it.
I remember when I was younger and one of my mom’s cousins told me she would buy me anything I wanted if I stopped biting my nails. I think it was around that time I did but I’m not totally sure. I do remember that I didn’t see her often but the next time I saw her, I did stop and she didn’t buy me the LEGO set I asked her for.
I see her every now and then (this is like 15-20 years later) and I’m always tempted to ask her about that old ass LEGO set she never got for me that I really wanted 😂
I didn’t bite but I used to tear my nails, sometimes until they bled… and then some. I kicked the habit quite literally overnight after I started painting them. A little over 4 years later, I think I’ve done it once, though I also typically wear extensions now so it’s kinda hard to even if I wanted
Came here to say biting my nails. Only took me 4 decades.
I was 35 when I quit. Did it because of work. Hazardous manufacturing.
I quit at 25 because I had brackets and two years after I no longer had brackets I started again, quit three years ago thanks to my now wife.
At 25 I also stopped smoking and drinking soda and alcohol.
Do you even remember the exact set? Depending on rarity, some of them SKYROCKETED in value.
Hey cousin! Remember that $20 lego set you owe me? Yeah. It costs $4,000 now.
Of course I do! I was OBSESSED with that set lol. It was a small one too, I wasn’t trying to be too demanding but I was big into collecting the RES-Q series. But I have checked on it a few times since then.
It was about $10 USD and now it’s worth about $50 USD set # 6445 https://www.brickeconomy.com/set/6445-1/lego-res-q-emergency-evac
I used to get those little yellow catalogues and I’d sit there and stare at this set for hours on end.
I’ll have to get back to you when I finally fix one.
Talking more than listening.
Oral fixation.
Boy friends loved it, my husband was the first person who encouraged me to go to therapy and address my emotional and anxiety issues.
Used to drink 3+ cans of caffeinated soda/day, kicked the habit this year and down to only drinking them when eating out or if I need to stay up for work or sumthin. Pretty nice that regular bottles of caffeine soda can work like an energy drink used to. Still drinking like 2 cans of soda/day but it’s not caffeinated.
Nice, same! Switched over to bubbly water first but after my dentist told me too much of that is also not great, I’ve cut down to a couple of sparkling waters a week and a very rare soda once every couple of months.
A good start. Caffine is the most common drug in America besides tobacco. Neither one is classified as one thanks to good ol FDA
Caffeine is not particularly harmful at common doses…
Energy drinks, namely Red Bull. Loved the blue and yellow ones. Drank one every morning for years.
Then in May of last year I started getting toothaches. A root canal, eleven fillings, an extraction, and $6,000 later, I stopped drinking energy drinks and cut down drastically on sugary drinks.
Good move. Red bull will give you wings (make you an angel)
