Of all the instruments, I have a hard time believing that humanity could’ve managed to avoid inventing percussion instruments. You literally hit anything against anything.
Damn, it’s almost as if the guy in the comic had a flawed shower thought at 3 AM. 🤔
I think it actually adds to the existential crisis in the comic. Music is such a fundamental part of history that things could have been very different if we never discovered percussion.
I’ve heard it said that in African cultures it doesn’t make sense to say that someone is ‘not musical’, as in the concept doesn’t exist. Seeing as musical gatherings are such a communal part of life. They are also famously reliant on percussion, so I’d guess that those people indeed can’t imagine the instruments not being there.
Rimshots aren’t really used in comedy clubs these days unless you’re seeing Kill Tony. More like latenight TV which is dead.
Maybe we would use our hands and tummies.
Or would play music with kitchenware.
