So, Lemmy has become my main squeeze, like reddit used to be. Ive been here for a few years now, and the only thing i really miss from the bad place, is RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite). Mainly, the expando of media like pictures, gifs, and embedded videos. I think that’s what RES called it? The little icon you could click to get a full, inline view of the media.

Right now, if I want to view an image, I right click > view image in a new tab. Or, I could click the image and have it load that image in my current tab, view it, and click back on my browser.

Is there anything like RES for Lemmy? Am I being dumb and there is a built in feature im missing? I know there are a couple Git repos out there, but they are 2-3 years old with no updates. I know Lemmy is open source so the need for RES isn’t as high but I feel like how media is handled could be better. I’m not a programmer though…

Might as well piggyback this thread.

RES had a setting called “collapse inline media” that collapsed the gifs and images in comments. Is there a way to do that for lemmy?

Also, is there a way to move the “collapse comment tree” button to the top of the comment instead of the bottom? Often times I know I want to collapse a comment from the first few words and then have to scroll down, collapse it and then, if the comment is long or has a giant picture on it, scroll back up because after collapsing the comment I’m like 3 comments below from where I started.

what you are describing is already how it works on the basic Lemmy UI on web:

when I click the thumbnail it expands the image inline:

    How do you browse Lemmy?

Just through the browser (Firefox on PopOs). I have my settings set to auto expand media. I do see the expanded image, but sometimes its smaller than the one uploaded. If i want to zoom in or view the full size image, i have to open in new tab, etc.

If you use Voyager on mobile you can full-screen and then save images or videos. I haven’t had any luck being able to do that with posts on the web client of any instance
