My dog is dying. She’s very old, she’s breathing heavily like something is hurting her, she has no appetite, she struggles to stand. I can’t think about anything else

At least twice a year I am forced to listen to television commercials. They get noticeably worse each time but did something crazy happen since Christmas? It feels like we jumped forward a whole decade in awful, there’s this thing where they make a joke and then like one of the characters explains it as if it were some Amazon show where the plot is explained in the dialog to catch you up but it makes no sense for anyone to say that, except in the case the event being explained just happened. Sorry to be so vague I’m still suffering from the trauma, it was some progressive commercial and some other one at least. What do regular sports watchers or whatever feel when they’re staring at this shit, is inducing rage part of the marketing?

i really don’t understand why my partner didn’t get screened for cancer when she went to the doctor months ago for unexplained weight loss (like 30Ib in a year, no changed habits, prior to quitting drinking, even), like, I thought that’s what they did when they did blood work and said she was fine

I feel like thinking i know more than doctors is treading a dangerous line of arrogance but jesus fucking christ it feels like they do not give a single shit about her if all they did in response to her losing 1/5th of her body weight in a year without explanation was to draw some blood, shrug their shoulders and go “welp, you’re fine!”

and now she can’t fucking eat because she’s so anxious because of the situation with her job and their response is to give her a pamphlet with “baby’s first steps to fixing your appetite” as if neither of us had the capacity to think of “eat small meals” and shit like that.

The more i think about it the angrier i get, this fucking patronizing toddler “information” and a referral for a cancer screening they should have done months ago is all she gets? Eat small meals, fuck you, she can hardly eat anything without immediately burping and feeling like she’s going to throw up. There’s no prescription strength anti emetic they can give for nausea so she can at least try and eat a couple meals? Give her a fucking xanax or two, maybe? No it’s just “awww poor baby, try eating less :) pay us $260 ($40 after insurance)”

I don’t know if it’s just doctors not caring about their jobs, not caring about women, or i’m just an asshole and this is reasonable medical care

got space invaders working in my godot game collection

Playing in widescreen makes this game feel a lot different. The early game progresses slower because there’s a lot more time in between “down” steps, but the end game zips by much faster, because you get fewer chances to hit the lastt fast-moving Invader.

My version rewards “sniping” the backline before getting the invaders in front. This is a SUPER precise shot that I can’t do consistently, but I like it as a high skill flex.

You can also see that sometimes Godot’s physics will give you a “glancing” hit that doesn’t fully register. This is because my bullets use the same body as everything else, I’ll get around to fixing it by adding a proper hitbox to them eventually.

Next up is Tetris. I already have “version 1” working, but i need to scrap a bunch of what I did for it because it’s really fragile and doesn’t play well with the rest of my component ecosystem. Basically my big discovery while making Space Invaders was that it’s much easier to “simulate” a grid using Godot’s in-built collision system than it is to define a grid on the screen and attempt to have everything communicate with it, and now I’m going to rewrite my Tetris code to work that way too.
