America was founded by religious nutjobs who were too crazy for the local European nutters. What did you think would happen?
Except that the crazy religious nutjobs mainly created their own state churches in the North. The real reason is that the USA was the first time in a long while where there wasn’t a state presence trying to control religion for various reasons. You’d get random preachers going around the newly settled parts trying to sell people on their form of Jesus and being able to change their Jesus to fit local tastes.
It turns out that making going to church entertaining and preaching that everyone in the room were good people helped get converts
End up like what? It’s always fucking been like this.
America no longer prioritizes education as much as it used to in the past. This created a knowledge vacuum, where the high quality knowledge people used to take in is being replaced with lower quality knowledge, like bullshit fairy tales from religion or conspiracy theories from the web.
Deprioritizing education is the downfall of any society. This is a snowball effect that also lead religious people to invent their own ways to worship or for them to choose what parts to believe or enforce which in turn allowed for a bastardization of the religion itself. Remember “WWJD?”. Well, he sure as fuck wouldn’t do any of the shit the right-wing christians of America are doing today.
Scammers and dumb motherfuckers getting together and having a good time!
It started off a completely fucking rotten death cult and capitalism made it worse. Seems pretty cut and dry to me
- predicate everything on a few small lies
American? All religions are bad all over the world.
I’m a Pastafarian and I resent that remark!
Do you kiss your mom in that colander?
Just be thankful a noodly appendage is holding you down man. If not for those we’d all go flying into space.
I can also eat my oppressor, which is socialism!!
Mmm, spaghetti.
It’s an interesting article for those interested in Christian history in America. I’m not a fan of applying econ101 to everything. Looking at religion as a market competing for customers is the most atheist thing I’ve ever heard.
Well, they donhave door to door salesmen.
There is a market of ideas however, religious ideas included.
It’s a framework for understanding, a map of a territory that exists only in the mind, like everything else.
Intolerant bullshit?
