But only seeing. Why we’ve been wasting time on AI when we could have been developing tactile “pat and boop” internet I’ll never know. And yes of course the concept will be bootlegged and applied to porn, but that’s a problem for another day.

The way things usually go, it’s more likely to be developed for porn first and then retrofitted for pets…

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s been a thing since the late 2000s; even before e-cigs were a thing.

I’ve been tempted to when I saw a boxer left in a vehicle under the heat of the sun with the windows fully rolled up. I mentally gave the owner ten minutes to show up before I called the cops, and they almost literally showed up at the last second. Wanted to give them what for, but didn’t want the cops called on me.

you can always call animal control (it’s the same non-emergency number, in point of fact.)

My experience has been that the animal control officers are absolutely animal-people, and they’ll come out and see what’s what. If they do go in, they usually take the animal with them and they leave some paperwork saying what happened and where they can get the doggos. (if… they can get the doggos. Once they decided it was absolutely animal abuse and they would have to go to court first… I had to go give testimony there because they didn’t plead out, as the security guard that called that in. 110 inside their crate, which was wrapped in a blanket.)

all I’m gonna say is… every time I see a dog, i have an intrusive thought: “pet the dog.”

I felt this way about cooking recipes. But it wasn’t worth all of the mental health gaslighting I was getting.

Thankfully Lemmy has a cooking comm. 😊

Conversely, not being able to see everyone’s pets is a price I willingly pay to not have social media (in particular the Meta kind).

Perfect. I can also enjoy boating virtually. I experienced sailing the Beneteau First 14 through someone else’s first-person footage. Just like that, I’m a successful boat owner too.
