Ive actually begun to lie to my coworkers less
Declining to share all personal details is not the same as lying. I don’t lie but am very intentional with the personal information I share.
It depends.
I lie about my alternative lifestyle activities and I dance around my political beliefs depending on the topic.
I’m honest about work itself and how I feel if they utter any slurs or bigoted beliefs.
I dance around my political beliefs too, but thats only bc im under threat of starvation and honelessness. But then again, thats why i lie at all. Its easier and safer to coast instead of being weird or disruptive to their norm and i have no safety net
I wish people around me would talk about politics. Everyone is so apathetic towards it all, let me rant about anarchism!
I keep private things private, but I don’t lie.
This is a very principled stance, but it’s also a very career-limiting one. Your coworkers (and, worse, bosses) hate people who tell them “mind your own business” (no matter how politely said).
A career has never been the most important thing in my life. That said, I don’t remember telling anyone to mind their own business.
My department are all the same type of nerds that I am so they know everything.
Everyone outside of my department gets the corporate sanitized version of everything.
I don’t lie, I’ve never been good at it, but I don’t elaborate. If I’m asked something I don’t want to answer I say I’m not discussing that here.
There’s a 98% respected rule to not discuss politics. Management states they’d prefer we don’t because it upsets the clientele and it’s irrelevant to the workplace.
However, every couple years there’s that one person who cannot read the room and loudly talks politics to the quiet people around her she thinks are listening but who are instead cringing as they wait for her to stop talking.
“Bring your full self to work” is a lie and people WILL use it against you. I dont “lie” but i sure as hell dont reveal any more than i have to
100%, and bald-faced lie about your private life; if you just say “none of your business” or “that’s private”, you’ve “earned” another enemy.
For many years I was honest, and I kept suffering for it. Just say whatever the fuck they want you to and go home. You don’t owe them anything and they will lie to you through their teeth.

If you have views that are in the minority and not directly related to your task at work it is smarter to keep those to yourself in my opinion. Lying is optional. Its just easier for them to perceive me as the quiet guy who keeps to himself.
I am not a capitalist. Telling my bosses that I view a large portion of our work as simply and needlessly extracting excess money and labor from individuals isnt going to advance my career and is unlikely to result in anyone changing their worldview. It is more likely to mean im passed over for a promotion.
It’s morally correct to lie to your coworkers and bosses. Especially your bosses.
Sounds like a great way to lower over all class cohesion and worker solidarty, making a union less likely.
And this is why ive started to lie less. That and just general bonding, at least with people who seem nice

Lie about anything else? Absolutely. My coworkers have no claim on the truth of anything related to me that’s not related to work.

My entire company has 13 people in it total. Any drama involves every single one of us somehow. My conr coworker is transfem and Teamsed the incel bigoted coworker messages about how the hrt is making her boobs big and sensitive. Ofc that was reported and now we have to do extra trainings and we can’t edit or delete teams messages and our boss reads every single message. We are also doing some dumbass DISC assessment to see how we can work better together because my trans coworker threatened to quit. This team building shot is not going to change anything. Getting rid of problematic employees is the best solutions, but this place never fired people for anything and it’s dumb
Can confirm, my coworkers still don’t know I’ve transitioned yet because they’re all bigots
I don’t lie, and unless if it’d improve the workplace atmosphere (or future labour conditions), I don’t bother talking about it.
So, I speak out about abuse and harassment, and am pretty chatty, but when it comes down to religion, that’s very much a private matter.
Why stop at coworkers?
I dont like lying, but i really have to keep my job and remaining favorable with everyone is a surefire way to do that.
