i believe that companies like incogni - “Data Broker Removal Service” advertised by every other youtuber, is a scam operating on same principle, only there you give them your data AND pay for it, while these ice morons provided their data for free 😂

tl;dr data broker removal services work, on a very limited set of data brokers (not the big ones, not the most impactful ones, not the ones that intentionally don’t keep your name but keep everything else about you), for about 6 months at a time. they’re truly useless. if you live in california that state has its own opt-out service that’s much more effective and also free: https://privacy.ca.gov/drop/

oh i am not even american, but i don’t see how this can conceptually work.

        • “excuse me, are you storing any information on john doe? i would like you to delete them”
        • “you have to be more precise sir, we can have lot of john does”
        • “john doe living at evergreen terrace 123, social security number 456789. do you have anything on me?”
        • “well, we did not until right now, thank you, sir!”

The good services (that sensibility do not advertise) poison the datasets with "John J. Doe"s who happen to live in 37 different places and have 712 separate credit card histories, each entry more complete than John doe’s
