History > restore previous session
Y’all, bookmarks exist.
And whats the point of a 1000 plus bookmark list? You save 50 sites at a time, you will need duckduckgo to search your own bookmarks.
Yes, i use folders for my bookmarks. But sometimes i dont know what the fuck folder i put that bookmark in.
Suffering from a something of riches, I guess.
There’s no point to a thousand bookmarks. Learn to purge man. You said that like it was a requirement to have a thousand bookmarks. That’s not normal. That is so weird.
I never understood why people would keep so many tabs open. Is it a chrome habit? Like you let your browser keep them open because it’s the default setting? You can search history. I feel dirty if I have more than 20 open, and it means I was productive.
When you’re done with the tab, close it.
55 tabs, that’s cute.

I love that this thread is about 1/3 “55? pfft that’s nothing”, 1/3 “just close em, if it matters you can find it again later”, and 1/3 “well here’s how you get that window back ezpz”
Wouldn’t be able to handle it.
My browser clears everything every time I close it. Like sessions, logins, history, cookies, …
If I need it I will be able to find it again. Or I create a bookmark. That is what you’re supposed to do anyway.
Hence why I have session restore enabled.
So I can have my 1519 tabs back.
Like any normal person.
…this is what normal people do… right?
Many years ago I once had almost 10 000 tabs open at some point. Today I only have a few hundred tabs open like an average person. :)
Seems totally normal to me. Yep.
I’ll never understand why so many people keep so many tabs open, When I find something worthy of revisit I just bookmark the website, or I just visit and close the tab when I’m done.
Could someone explain this to me? is it a generational thing (I grew up in the 90s)?
Ah, that is because you seem to have only two tiers of tab value, worth revisiting and not. There is a middle tier of “to be considered for evaluation when I have time”. THAT is what all those extra tabs are for :) The crux of course is that there is rarely time to fully look at all those tabs, so they accumulate. As you can tell, I frequently suffered from this situation. My solution was to use an RSS reader so I could just leave the potential tab unread and save all the memory (that Sam Altman is currently salivating for).
Also the between of important enough you’d like to come back to it/review it, but not important enough to put into the bookmark hole.
Its hoarding behavior. At least it only affects that person. Probably a sign of poor mental health, if someone can’t let go of old tabs. Maybe some angry tab collector will come set me straight though.
I feel crowded when I have 5 tabs open.
Just last week I closed over a thousand tabs, I regularly close over 700.
:(
CTRL+SHIFT+T: Open recently closed tab.
Can be hit as much as you like.
Help. I can’t find the ctrl button on my phone.
It is next to the Windows key.
The day I learned this changed my life, and I love teaching it to coworkers and friends, it lights up their brains.
Someone also needs to teach the OP to use CTRL+H.
Did you know that at some point Firefox switches from displaying a number of tabs to a lil infinity sign?
Ctrl, Shift + T
Don’t work for windows of past sessions that didn’t reopen.
At least on Firefox there’s a list of recently closed windows you can access and restore
Not if you didn’t reopen it. It only goes back 1 session.
yeah, or you can just press ctrl+shift+n
Right… 55… Thats how many tabs I totally have… 😅😭
(Right now I’m at 470, which is pretty low for me. I have a problem. I honestly dont know what’s wrong with me.)

People think I’m crazy too, similar number of tabs.
But History no longer works in so many browsers… it only lasts 30 days… and bookmarks are not suggested properly in the search / address bar the same way open tabs are, so it’s wrong, very very wrong, and quite naughty… but this is the way to achieve this specific kind of long-term referencing… with zero effort
You can usually configure the kept history interval, if it helps.
You can search open tabs?
Depends on the browser, but sometimes dedicated search field, sometimes in the omnibar, plus LLM can search contents (depending on extensions)
I definitely feel there should be a much better way, but I’ve tried read it later services, built in “reading list”, link aggregators, all of which have just enough friction that I peter off using them, idk
I guess that makes 100+ tabs a bit more reasonable to filter through. I still dont quite see the advantage of having so many, maybe just a fear the information will be gone next time I would go to search it up?
Not to proliferate your issue but have you checked out extensions for tab trees in your browser? It let’s you organize all the tabs you want yo keep. I’ve had the extension for years after someone told me about it. Maybe I’ll think about using it today when I get to work and see the 5 or 6 browser instances with 20-40 tabs each I have open on my work pc…
it’s called “if i put it out of sight i’ll forget about it”
Yes, thats my though too when I open stuff in a new tab “for later”. What didn’t get through to my brain yet is that it is then out of sight (lost among hundreds of other tabs “for later”)
Just reopen them?
