Following the thread on !movies@lemm.ee, here is another one to discuss your favourite TV shows of 2024
Animation shows should probably be discussed on !animation@lemm.ee
Feel free to comment with the shows you liked the most, ideally one comment per show so that other people can chime in and discuss.
Shrinking. We’re on season 2 now. Such a good show. Great character development. Harrison Ford is excellent as a cantankerous psychologist.
Only Murders in the Building (season 4).
Every season of this show has been fun and this season was no different. So many fun characters this season, but Paul Rudd was my favorite.
The acting in that show is great all over. One of my favorites too! Richard Kind is such a hilarious actor. It was cool to see him in a more serious role.
The Penguin.
I never expected much from it, but it is excellent. A show about a villain that doesn’t say away from him being a villain.
I’m on episode 4 and I’m fixed in my seat. Good shit
Very Important People and Make Some Noise!
Dropout is an absolute powerhouse of comedic talent putting quality entertainment out.
Yeah, I could have kept listing Dropout shows but I wanted to keep it brief, lol
Vic has nailed it with Very Important People. Really just a fun time and another great addition to Dropouts insane offering of comedy shows.
Shogun and The Penguin were the standouts for me. I’m in the middle of watching a Korean drama called “The Trunk”, and if it doesn’t shit the bed in the latter half of the series, I would put it as an honorable mention.
Shogun is the best TV I’ve seen in many, many, years. Maybe the best.
Holy shit you’re right. I wanted so bad for it to continue and it’s so good that it leaves me wanting more and doesn’t oversaturate. Great show
Kaos was good in a week year. Netflix cancelled it .
I’m going to have to do some thinking, but currently my favorite is What We Do In the Shadows. It feels like old seasons and constantly makes me laugh, going to miss it (series finale next week!)
Man what a year for shows I actually think. We got the obvious big hits like Fallout and Shogun, but there were some smaller ones that I think were far better than people recognize.
Extraordinary:
Really what a fun show that does a great play on the superpower tropes and does such a fun dance of the cast being terrible people that you want to root for.Scavengers Reign:
Woah what a powerhouse of an emotional animation roller coaster. So fantastic, so alien. Fully took advantage of what the medium could do that no other could and proved why animation is still the truest art can get.Snowpiercer:
Maybe a bit of a controversial pick and especially since it was the last season but it was fun.
I really enjoyed that they took the comic and held themselves true to the sweeping arcs and messages and even each season matched each book as if viewed through a foggy lens to keep it original while recognizable.
Cinematography definitely took a hit first few episodes of the last season but then it balances back out and you can feel a desperate need for a happy ending in a sad story. Still lots of fun and very Snowpiercer the whole time.Scavengers reign is the fucking shit. That fuckin ending tho! Give me more
I watched a few good ones this year. Shogun has already been mentioned and it’s phenomenal!
The penguin has started out really gripping my attention. (I’m on episode 4)
Misfits and Magic 2 was fun, energetic and well made.
Season 2 of The Devil’s Hour was chef kiss so that would probably be my pick
I have barely watched any new shows but Hazbin Hotel - I can’t believe I never watched the original Youtube version, anyways I’m obsessed (yes, I know it’s animated but I don’t watch that many animated shows, so I’m not joining the animation community)
Who is X-Men 97 for? Is it for kids? For nostalgic adults? I don’t know. I bounced off of it real hard.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything new this year, felt like a shallow one. Last year I’d say Silo, and Scavenger’s Reign are both worth mentioning and highly underrated.
Shogun is probably the one new show that was noticed in 2024
Shogun was okay, but the last couple episodes kinda ruined it for me. Overall I think its a bit overhyped.
There are really only two shows that stuck with me this year.
- We Are Lady Parts
- Dead Boy Detectives
Sadly Dead Boy Detectives has been cancelled, thanks Netflix. And We Are Lady Parts has gone dark on discussions about upcoming seasons.
Honorable mention for Colin From Accounts. It was cute and I liked the premise. I’m just not a fan of cringe humor and it seemed to rely on it a little too much for my liking.
I think this year has been awful… Last good show for me was Severance.
