I was permanently banned for talking bad about the current sh*tshow of an administration we have here in the US

you can get the same kind of sanction on politics community(lemmy) too, there are so many anti-biden, anti-dems on that community as they were on reddit, it was astonishing. i had to block that community now.

I would prefer the dumpster fire over what’s going on lately.

That’s weird, I haven’t used reddit for many years now, but it used to be clearly liberal/left leaning.

it still kinda, but whats change is turmp got elected, and then there was significant astroturfing from right wingers they are allowing, hence why people have been calling it turning to a right wing site now. especially you have to be careful around trump/musk, gaza/Luigi related comments.

then theres the general indiscriminate banning they are doing.

The CEO wants to monetize it more, sell more ads, sell your data, etc. So I’m sure that is part of the removal reasons

What does he have to sell, from what I can tell even in non political subs a lot of users I’ve known who posted have been permanently banned. From sports gaming and cooking subs.

It seems like reddit is just bots anymore. Actual traffic can’t be what it is like it’s heydey

It has definitely changed from what it was. They have been making deals to sell all the user reply threads to places like google for AI training. Maybe the bans are about “cleaning” their data model

That does not ring true, because controversy feeds engagement, and engagement increases overall activity and makes it possible to sell more ads.
So by that standard reddit should embrace the controversy as long as it’s legal.

Yes, controversy feeds engagement, but advertisers don’t want to appear in the vicinity of certain content, too. So it’s a balancing act.

it seems its the reddit site filtering and not the subreddit, the reddit uses a much broader and indiscriminate filtering.

I just commented a few times on some memes

If that’s all it takes now to get the ban hammer, then we should see fedi numbers rise nicely this year.

Sorry this happened to you. The Reddit we loved is evidently being intentionally reduced to yet another reactionary / fascist echo chamber, like Xitter.

I don’t know if Reddit’s board are just enthusiastic regime toadies, or if the regime has leverage over CEO u/spez Huffman in connection with his tenure as r/Jailbait mod. Either way, it’s not going back, so fediverse is the way forward.

I had that too where i wanted to ask something to a specific game/technical? community that really had no other place where i could ask.

That they probably remove and flag messenges with words like “luigi” is bad, but that they block legit messanges is probably hurting the userbase and anyone that peeks back for that question that is hard to get an answer elsewhere
