“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

Yes, I once made a list of some mid comebacks for internet arguments so I can just ctrl-c and ctrl-v them and don’t have to waste brain power on you.

Orientalism is quite the broad stroke, generalising quite a bunch of very diverse cultures. You are wandering dangerously close to racism here, buddy.

            Westerners

TIL the Chinese people on Weibo that originally created and spread the meme are “Westerners”.

Oh boy, look at what rather unfortunately named character they compared President Obama to! I bet if we were evil imperialists we’d claim that was intentional and a disgusting example of racism. Can you imagine the kind of person who would make such a bad-faith argument?

Good thing we’re not like those guys, eh comrade?

If conservatives (and only conservatives) were always calling Obama “Tigger” obsessively at every junction, and referencing that picture as justification, would you believe them? Or would you say recognise that they were just being racist.

Because thats how I feel when I see western liberals doing this and trying to claim they’re just referencing a meme from before half of them were even in primary school

I fucking hate the word orientalism. We look like that. We eat funny stuff. We dress weird. As long as there’s no hate you can fucking laugh at it.
