It’s cheesy but that’s part of the Fallout aesthetic. It sounds like you’re not familiar with the games, in particular the ones owned by the current IP owner, Bethesda. So Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Corny is part of the brand.

The TV show could have chosen to take the subject matter seriously, but they did not. In some ways it feels like a kids’ show, but then you have violence and gore and you kind of want it to pick a lane? It worked in the games, but I can see why people not familiar with the games would be put off.

I do think it’s a good series (season), but not great. It could have been better. I’m glad it exists. And Walton Goggins (the ghoul cowboy) is awesome.

I’ve completed FO3 twice, and New Vegas once. I know the Fallout aesthetic, but…

I think it is the lighting and the overall camera work that put me off somehow. I will watch another episode and see if I start to like it.

I think it’s intentional, and I’m guessing your gripe is mostly with the bunker scenes. It looks cheap, because they’ve been living underground for centuries, stuff gets shittier.

The cinematography is pretty consistent throughout. The aesthetic of the show is, this is a game/cartoon/comic/50s TV Show come to life.

It is a jarring as the aesthetic of the people living in the bunkers is very “Leave it to Beaverish” and doesn’t jive with the story content. It grows on you and really works if you can get into it.

I loved the show and it gets better and better with every episode.

In fact thanks for reminding me, I need to do a rewatch leading up to the new season.

Not a big player of the games, but the series is great. Everything is intentional. Also there’s a narrative here about the absolute disconnect between the rich ansld the rest of us. The world got nuked in the 50s and the privileged locked themselves away separately underground. Of course they turned out weird. And they’re told lies by those in charge about the surface to keep them afraid.

    Sound familiar??? Lol

    Keep watching. It’s very entertaining.
