Also today don’t forget that they threatened to defund universities, the places who teach how to make things

    Edit: defund instead of refund

“Defund”? Holy shit, they’re really completely fucking stupid haha.

And the best part is that we all know a tonne of people who have these views. We can pretend that these people are actually Russian spies or whatever but at some point we need to accept that Conservatives the world over genuinely are just stupid, angry, and short-sighted. It’s their entire MO.

But there is also the uncomfortable thought that all the education hasn’t helped the left leaning people to organise a better future.

I don’t know what you expect left leaning people to do with the rest of you working against us.

Capitalism enables the rich to implement policies to ensure they have all the power. Education won’t fix regulatory capture.

Most people just do whatever everybody else does. How come the rich can manipulate the masses if most creative people are left leaning? Regulatory capture is one thing, but if some bureaucrats can organise a regime change then all the left leaning people should be able to improve the situation.

To be fair, they already do. But whatever is, seems to be far away from what the left wants.

Money, specifically propaganda. Humans will believe anything if it is repeated enough times. A collective of broke anarchist artists will never reach as many people as a billionaire funded think tank and advertising agencies.

if some bureaucrats can organise a regime change then all the left leaning people should be able to improve the situation

This is an odd “if”. If you’re referencing something, I don’t get it. Generally regime change is carried out by men with guns (far too often backed by the United States).

My question was “What do you expect left leaning people to do”. If you don’t have anything more specific than “improve the situation”, neither does anyone else. That is not terribly actionable.

The internet makes that possible. It’s not a resource problem.

Generally regime change is carried out by men with guns

                Somebody motivated them.

                That is not terribly actionable.

People with education should come up with their own plans. That’s the uncomfortable part.

Is it uncomfortable? Around the world “the right” is either already fascist or steadily(and happily) moving towards it while centrism is constantly constantly trying to pretend that everything is ok and that half-ass, less scary changes are implemented in place of better, full-fat ones which may alienate the right-wing voters who are increasingly calling for killing anyone who is slightly against them. The center also runs nearly entirely on “we aren’t the right” and people fall for it all the time.

Smart people know how to make shit work, and they know that because their education allows to perform studies to show that these things work but you try to get a bike lane installed in North America and see what happens. Facts don’t matter to way too many people and so many are also so poor that being deathly afraid of the threat of a teething period is not even wholly unreasonable, as much as we do need to just rip that bandaid off(and usually it just means taxing the rich and not the poor but again, try telling that to people who get their news from Facebook propaganda pages).

And if you’re saying that US Democrats are “the left” then we can’t even have this conversation until that’s sorted out.

That’s where all the students who didn’t study STEM should bring their skills.

What? Are you trying to say that people who didn’t study STEM don’t care about facts? Some of the dumbest, mosy socially inept people I know are varying types of engineers. Or do you mean that people who didn’t study STEM need to market facts better because STEM people can’t do that for themselves? What are you saying?

The non STEM fields cover the understanding of humanity. Art, psychology, social science, language. They know how to convince humans without facts.

But also you’re trying to say that education hasn’t helped? Also those fields aren’t exactly teaching “how to convince people without facts” though I might agree that there is a level of understanding human relationships that goes on, to varying degrees, with some of them. The psychologists and social science people may have an edge, though either people refuse to listen to them flat-out or they refuse to engage in blatant progaganda.

It doesn’t help that “the left” in the US is a Democrat party full of centrists and conservatives who absolutely do not care. They don’t even want to do what’s best for people in the first place, and they have some hard-coded rules for themselves that are much harder to break through than just busting out you social sciences wand and casting a spell.

In the US there are 4 million graduates each year. Let’s assume there are 10,000 left leaning students with a degree each year. They don’t have to break into anything, they could be their own thing.

If it takes blatant propaganda to prevent fascism, why would that be off limit? There are enough people to organise change but for them, the most reasonable thing to do is to get a job. It’s beautiful how fragile the system is defended, but also how effective it is.
