Impassionata@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Americans talking like if Nazi Germany didn't model its Aryan Supremacist State based on the USA
1·6 days agodo you feel better having ranted to no one affecting nothing
It’s a imperial republic that people like you think is some shining city on a hill.
pointing out that abolitionists fought the civil war and won isn’t gazing at “some shining city on a hill”
Impassionata@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Americans talking like if Nazi Germany didn't model its Aryan Supremacist State based on the USA
2·8 days agobut they didn’t win in the 1930s here and we won the civil war before
“the us was always nazi” no the US always had slavers but
there is a difference between “put down a slavers rebellion” and nazi Germany
the US has been somewhat better than autocratic dissent genocides
the propaganda about how the US was always a fascist state is a factual error as well as a propaganda error.
it’s not merely that people need something to believe in, it’s that if you believe the US cannot be steered, you will become increasingly correct.

politics @lemmy.world•Yes, It’s Fascism | Until recently, I thought it a term best avoided. But now, the resemblances are too many and too strong to deny.

4·20 days agothe feds already have you if you post on lemmy, blusky, or mastodon
if I knew, I wouldn’t ask tbh…
I’m not saying it’s not an improvement but it’s not sufficient, either
Can I ask a different, more difficult question?
Where are people going?
Lemmy Isn’t Quite It? Mastodon is too formal. Blusky is too political.
Lemmy was a clone of Reddit. Not an improvement on it.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•I've recently turned into a blocker.English
31·4 months agoIt’s better to hurt old people’s feelings than allow them to continue to debase themselves with the false belief that they’re competent.
It’s possible to have a readily applicable standard for polite interactions when we’re not divided by fascist rhetoric.
The way feminists relate to men’s issues is often founded in a universalizing noxious ideology of feminism. Men shouldn’t be feminists, they should be allies.
What I’m trying to say is: blocking isn’t the reason that our politics have entered into toxic polarization, fascism is the reason for that. There’s nothing really wrong with blocking.

You’re discovering the complexities of comparing geopolitical strata across time and space. Don’t disrespect it. Just because you have feelings about an essential “egyptian” storyline doesn’t mean those feelings are valid. Shut up. Thanks.

14·6 months agoWow, an American backing up the Aussie’s settler colonial understanding of national identity.
I don’t think you know enough about these topics to be opining so haughtily, arrogantly, and condescendingly. If I were a moderator here you’d be permabanned just to keep the comment section intelligible.

24·6 months agoSo yes, Italians do feel like the inheritors to the ancient Romans, just ask an Italian.
That doesn’t mean they are. Continuity of geopolitical narrative is mostly stupid. In the era of nationalism (post-Napoleonic France) geopolitical narrative is 100% jingoistic propaganda: those impulses are 100% recuperated by the State.
By this logic, there are no inheritors to ancient Egypt at all since even the current inhabitants speak Arabic and not ancient Egyptian.
That’s actually very coherent, or more coherent than the idiotic notion that because people live in the same place, they are connected genetically, culturally, linguistically, or politically.
You’re discovering the complexities of comparing geopolitical strata across time and space. Don’t disrespect it. Just because you have feelings about an essential “egyptian” storyline doesn’t mean those feelings are valid. Shut up. Thanks.
