Halfway through Homura Hime. It’s pretty fun albeit a little too easy for my liking on the highest difficulty.
Hitman World of Assassination! I put off playing it because the purchase model was so fucking confusing, but now that I got it I’m having a blast! These games have some of the best level design I’ve ever seen, the way IOI integrates story with natural progression through the level is incredible to see. I’ve never seen a level like Sgail where a player must choose between either climbing the physical structure of the level, or climbing the social ladder through disguises that grant you increasing influence.
I’m on the Chongqing level, and the neon lights look absolutely gorgeous.
Nice! One of my absolute favourite games ever. I think it’s my second most played game of all time too. Something like 1300-1500 hours I’m pretty sure.
I agree about the pricing, it’s awful. About as confusing as it could possibly be, but I always try to get people to give it a chance regardless.
Chongqing is one of my favourite levels for sure. Probably top three. I think Sapienza will always be my favourite due to nostalgia (and that’s where most of my playtime is in), I started playing back in 2016 so that’s a decade of Hitman for me which is crazy to think about, so obviously I’ll have more nostalgia for the Hitman 1 levels, but it’s telling that a Hitman 3 level made it to top three for me.
I was planning on playing some Minecraft with my wife tonight but if she decides to crochet instead I might mess around in Chongqing instead. You’ve got me in the mood for some Hitman.
Dang!! That’s some time! I’m still playing through the main campaign (once I finish a level I replay it 3-4 times), I’m super excited to try out all the extra challenges & Freelancer mode. Honestly the story has pulled me in more than I expected, it’s really well told.
I actually started with Hitman 2 back in 2020, but only put a lot of time in Miami. My current favorite levels are: Sapienza (just gorgeous), Miami, Sgail, Dubai, Berlin, & now Chongqing. I love playing with no hints, it’s super satisfying figuring out how to navigate the level myself. Shame the game leaves mission stories with full guidance unless you change it - feels way too on-rails.
Great list. All those are top maps for me too. I’d also add Hokkaido and Vermont (Whittleton Creek) to that list personally, especially Hokkaido. I’d probably say top three in order would be Sapienza, Hokkaido, Chongqing.
When you’re done with the main story, definitely check out the extra stories. Patient Zero is probably my favourite, especially the last level, but all of them are great. I found Seven Deadly Sins to be the most challenging personally. Sniper mode is also a ton of fun too. Really, all of it is. I could just list every part of the game at this point actually, I just love Hitman.
If you’re into watching games on YouTube, OutsideXbox has my favourite Hitman content personally. I’d highly recommend checking out their Three Ways to Play series, it’s especially hilarious if you know their personalities well but even if you don’t, you’ll enjoy them anyway. They’ve got a ton of Hitman content though and it’s all great. I’ve probably seen all the videos several times now. They’ve even done a live action Hitman one which was super neat and got a bit chaotic at parts, in the best way possible of course.
Yes I love Hokkaido! I need to go back & explore it some more but I love how it does more with a smaller area. That’s exciting! I’ll check out thsoe extra missions too, and yeah I love doing Suit Only Sniper Assassin - it’s such a test of patience and map knowledge.
Love OutsideXbox! I’ll check out their videos on the game
Without spoiling anything, the best level from a side story (imo) is on Hokkaido. You’ll have to work your way to it though.
I used to speedrun silent assassin suit only on Sapienza, that’s where I got a bunch of my hours in the game. I never beat any records or anything but I got pretty decent I’d like to think. I don’t remember my stats anymore though, that was years ago now.
OX used to be my favourite channel and is still up there, and I’d say their Hitman content is their peak. I’ve been watching them since their very early days when they were a small channel, and I’ve probably seen every video they’ve ever put out, and I’d still say Hitman is their best stuff. Definitely give it a watch.
I just started Pillars of Eternity again last night.
I’d played before up to like the big port city where you can find paladin girl, but the RTWP just wasn’t clicking with me.
Now that they added turn based, I’m giving it another go with my Moon Godling Chanter. Reny Daret’s ghost is a fucking beast.
Replaying Rogue Trader now half the DLC is out, occasionally with my best friend as they added a coop mode at some point. RPing a reformed crime lord who has seen the light of the Imperial Truth and dedicated himself to spreading the Emperor’s word while my friend goblins around with all the crim characters looting everything and occasionally triggering a fight when I’m halfway across the map.
Abelard, upvote this man for his excellent taste.
Baldur’s gate 3. Only about twenty hours in and still feel like I’ve got a lot to learn. Seems cool tho.
Ah damn that reminds me, I still have to finish BG3.
I’ve played for over 200 hours, but never made it to act 3 so far lol. Last time I got to the end of act 2, I only realised after agreeing to move to act 3 that I forgot to do a whole questline which made Halsin sad. Don’t remember why I created a new character instead of loading a save though.
I feel like I’m just at the start. Never played any RPG stuff before so feel like I’m very ignorant. Survived a couple of fights tho. At this fort thingie with a bunch of those guys with horns, a bunch of pissy druids I’ve not met yet, and apparently they gonna get stomped by goblins. My inclination is to rob them all and run before the goblins arrive, but the character I’m playing seems to be much nicer than me so I’m talking to ppl. Prob end up helping them. Interesting game, still very early days tho and feel like I’m missing a lot
Finally got around to playing Bloodborne. It’s good, but after playing Elden Ring it seems easier than expected.
Way easier than ER, but the atmosphere, music and the story are superb. Don’t know how far along you are in it but the dlc has tougher fights, (and my all time favourite soulsborne boss. ) I hope you have a good time with it!
I finished it and the dlc! The orphan was tricky. I don’t think anything took more than five tries though. Hunter’s axe is MVP.
Definitely a good game. Interesting setting.
Tried a bit of a new game with the cane sword and it’s way less solid.
Way to go!
Who was your favourite boss?
Oh, hard to pick! Maria was a good fight. I finished it by parrying her with the pistol, and then missed the critical attack so I just bonked her and she fell over. Still counts!
Moon presence was also pretty cool, and felt like it was a few tweaks from being Really Hard. It does that move where your health goes down to 1 and you have to rally it all back! Luckily for me the axe is good for rallying, and the boss is very generous about waiting for you. Elden Ring feels like it wouldn’t have given such a long recovery opening!
Still playing Withering Rooms and still absolutely enchanted by it. @Coelacanth@feddit.nu 's review of it initially sold me on it so I’ll just paste it again here!:
I finished Withering Rooms a few days ago, having done both a full first playthrough and a quick run through NG+ to get the ending exclusive to NG+. Since then I’ve been in that odd spot where I’m kind of having trouble moving on to the next game. I just keep thinking about Withering Rooms.
This game was so amazingly good, it is seriously unbelievable it is the work of a solo dev. Especially since he also composed pretty much all the music - and the music is as phenomenal as the game. I don’t think I’ve been this impressed with a solo dev since Lucas Pope and Obra Dinn.If you vibe in any way with what you see on the Steam page, I heavily encourage you giving it a shot.
It is one of the most unique games I’ve ever played, which is funny because it simultaneously wears its inspirations on its sleeves. But the influences never end up leading to derivative end product, instead they are just the foundation for the very distinctive artistic vision of an auteur developer that is doubtlessly doing his own thing. And it’s not just about the story and world building and art direction and atmosphere, but the gameplay and build variety is also really good. All the gameplay systems are so well designed, the puzzles are intuitive and the game has so many thoughtful little touches you wouldn’t expect from the first game of a solo dev, especially on the QOL front.
The combat itself is a little clunky, but you do get used to it and there are several ways to build both melee and spellcasting, there is a ranged weapon build that leans more into consumables, you can sneak around and place traps, you can be a summoner… Probably more that I didn’t think of yet. And using all these different tools is a lot of fun.Having played this I am unbelievably excited for the sequel, which enters Early Access this year.
I am so glad you’re loving it as much as I did! I literally can’t wait for Withering Realms, and it pains me that I might have to wait another year for it. Knowing Early Access won’t have NG+ makes me want to wait for full release, but at the same time I might not be able to stop myself from jumping in early when it opens in September. It’s maybe my most anticipated game of the year now.
Just beat Arkham Asylum (again), so probably try to spend some time on Witcher III.
Watching the floor get wiped with my carcass in Dragon’s Dogma. In hard mode.
On the upside, in between all the retrying, i amassed 1.5 mil gold coins from just running around the map exploring and killing goblins and bandits. This is one of those games where side quests get locked out by advancing the main story. I’m at a point where the main quest sends me right, but the side quests send me left, so I went the long way around. Now with hard mode, the exp gains are doubled from normal mode and mobs drop gold. I don’t know if it’s how it’s supposed to work, but all the weak goblins keep dropping 10k bags. I don’t mind it, because it definitely isn’t enough anyway.
My defense only matters for weak mobs, in case they gank me while I’m dodging the big guys and they tend to do that, wolves especially. The big guys mostly one-shot me, so I might as well run naked around them. Might be different at higher levels, but I’m a small time explorer for now.
I’m not sure I’m going to finish the story, but for now it’s fun. We’ll see how it develops further on.
For all its flaws, one thing I absolutely loved in that game was flinging people and goblins off cliffs and walls. So satisfying.
I got myself Cross Blitz in the steam deckbuilder sale. It’s a very hearthstone inspired TCG / deckbuilder - even including some recognisable HS archetypes like thief rogue (lol). Defo scratches the HS itch for me, but if you haven’t played Hearthstone, you might find it a lot initially.
It has a story mode with separate story for each of the 5 classes and there it is really a TCG. I played through one of them and it was pretty good, but left me wanting for more (especially given the TCG nature). I’m sure if you play through all 4 storylines, you get your money’s worth, but there isn’t really a point where your deckbuilding skills are heavily challenged.
It also has a roguelite mode which seems pretty extensive with many unlockable characters/starting decks. I’m pretty far in that and it’s fun. It also has a hard mode, which is kinda needed, as normal is a bit on the easy side.
Generally wouldn’t say it’s super deep, the powerlevel of passive relics tips it more into a “build OP deck” playstyle. But it’s really fun and has a nice colorful and cure artstyle.
Finally got a copy of Animal Well. Good fun, maybe too much.
still bg3. so I found out the evocalock does not work. I thouht the evoker ability would work with eldritch blast. switching that character to throwbarian and since its karlach actually brings her back to kinda what she should be.
I’m in what I would think is the final third or so of AI Limit, a well received anime-styled Soulslike from last year.
I’m having a hard time evaluating my time with it, because I find myself annoyed and frustrated numerous times when playing it, but this is the first Soulslike I’ve played in like 6 months and every time I am about to call the game bad I stop and reflect. Ambushes? Delayed attacks? Enemies with spammy attack patterns? Poison swamps? Time-wasting enemy placement? Idiotic platforming without a dedicated jump button? Aren’t these all genre staples of Souls games at this point? Am I slowly discovering that this genre isn’t for me anymore?
So I don’t know. By all accounts the game is a competent Soulslike. Maybe I just haven’t been sleeping well lately, and that’s why I’m getting tilted.
Am I slowly discovering that this genre isn’t for me anymore?
The day you quit playing soulslikes is gonna be a sad day for me (╥﹏╥).
Or maybe that is the day you branch out and discover the wonderful world of non-Souls games, eh?
But I don’t know, I think I’m still under the spell of the Souls Stockholm Syndrome… for now at least. Even with my frustrations I still love exploration in Souls games, very few other games do it as well and I’m already kind of craving my next hit.
Also even then… it’s not like playing non-Souls games has stopped me from posting in c/Soulslikes before so you know… you’re not getting rid of me that easily.
It’s funny, the modern FromSoft catalogue is probably my favourite set of games out there, and yet I’ve rarely ventured out into soulslikes from other devs. Even the really big ones like Lies of P I haven’t played through. It’s my favourite genre of games though so I really should try to get into them more, but I just always find myself replaying Elden Ring or Dark Souls or something.
I mean, whatever makes you happy? A couple of years ago I made a conscious decision to expand my gaming vocabulary and play loads of different and new games instead of just replaying the same old games, or keep playing forever-games like Civ, Dota or MMOs. I don’t like every new game I play as much as my favorites, but I appreciate constantly seeing and experiencing new things.
But on the other hand some people just like playing their comfort games, and that’s also okay. You just gotta ask yourself if what you’re doing right now is making you happy, or if you’re just doing it out of habit.
I’d like to expand out, I just have such little time for games these days that when I finally do get an hour or two to play, I tend to stick to what I know. Plus it’s hard to get immersed in a story when you can only play a couple hours once a month or so. But I would like to venture out at some point.
I got a 300€ laptop that I took on vacation. It has Mahjon as the only game so i’m playing Mahjon
Rimwold.
New job working 2-10
