(just to clarify, I don’t have anything against the community, just the AI)

Although I follow the community, I cringe so hard at the icon and the banner of https://sh.itjust.works/c/games … how hard it would have been to find a real art from a real controller and make a mosaic with real game covers instead of that nonsensical whatever-crap

If anyone wants to organize it, there’s nothing stopping them. Direct Action and so on. I just use what I had readily available.

            stolen images

Intellectual Property is not a consideration for anarchists. Maybe it is for liberals but anarchists do not often suffer from liberal thoughts. If we do we work to improve ourselves and stop having them.

There is nothing capitalist about rolling your own models which is what we do here, but hey. You just gave a great example of how anti-AI people don’t like to let reality get in the way of a good narrative.

I run my own models, but only LLMs. Anything image or video generation is extremely hard to train ethically, and it looks like shit and obviously generated.

Now, the LLMs I run are not perfectly ethical, but I don’t ever post or otherwise publicize the raw output in any shape or form, I merely refer to it and fact check it. Anything I use them for is my own work.

Tbf, something in a store has to be available before you can steal it, if it is sold out or not yet released it’ll be harder.

And really in this context “theft” is like “piracy is theft,” as much as I also don’t like AI, nobody else was deprived of the banner simply because db0 generated it. Piracy isn’t theft (and the owner of the Pirate instance isn’t likely to be persuaded by that argument at least, even if you disagree…)

And tbf, “well it was trained on actual artist’s work” and so was almost every artist in history, that’s kind of how it works to a degree. The greats separate themselves but a lot of human created art is derivative.

I mean there’s plenty to get mad at AI for, personally I’m not a fan of how people are using it as a brain replacement, how it enables further the ubiquitous spying, how people want it to replace humanity, oh and y’know literal actual murder robots in the form of autonomous loitering drones is probably a bad idea, and coming soon to a town near you. But that said “theft” isn’t super high up on my list, personally.

Though this could arguably fit under brain replacement, but more accurately I’d say it was “talent replacement” which is a little more defendable imo, like everyone should be able to think for the most part, not everyone can draw well. Does it affect how much I can appreciate the art in question? Absolutely. But it’s not necessarily dumbing db0 down just because he can’t draw for shit.

I just use what I had readily available.

          1. Go to https://commons.wikimedia.org/
          2. Type “anarchist [symbol|graffiti|protest|parade]”
          3. Pick “No restrictions” under “License”

Alternative: remove the banner and icon. LGTM that way, offends literally nobody.

If that’d become a popular opinion, it can be turned into a vote, and maybe a fun contest for replacements 🤔 Imagine having a vote that is not about drama, harassment, atomization of fediverse but a low-stake negative commentary causing a good change with a side of community-building? I’m not against machine learning, but I am for nice events ;3

Made my own in like 2 minutes. Lines not thick enough, I know, not doing that again tho. There’s no detail but it actually hurts to add detail to a tiny icon.

I’d need a time to make my own versions, like a couple of days, but I won’t go with a straight regeneration of AI image, and my two-three initial design ideas are:

          1. Go with the harlequin theme, but make the hat on top of the A a rich two-color geometrical pattern like it’s usually depicted, with the main dome and side domes.
          2. Drop the A, and make it just a harlequin face, although it doesn’t make it anarchism-related, and picking red-black or any other flag color is limiting.
          3. Drop the A once again to make a red or white circled… B? Since it’s a B-tier or even /b/-tier anarchism-related humor, and most people are in the know to descipher it, why not, lol?
          4. Or make it F+, for both flip in FlipAnarchy and the unpleasant mark we get for not reading theory.

Want me to validate your feelings. Will it make you feel better?

I’ve been here for over 2 years and it still remains unclear to me what the average Lemming stands for, but I sure know what they’re against. It’s just wild to me how much some people seem to build their identity around the things they oppose - that opposition sometimes seems to be the only thing people here have in common with each other.

People are usually “against” things that are opposed to the things they “stand for”, a little logic will tell you what you want to know.

It’s not inherently a bad thing to have differing opinions. It’s not always just “fuck {insert company}” that’s common among people; there are DIY communities, software ones, gaming, shitposts…

There are lots of types of people with different opinions and backgrounds on Lemmy. However, most of us in the core user base came to Lemmy either because we were pushed out of other online spaces, or left out of protest. This means that Lemmy is tends to have a bit of a bias against big tech, authoritarian governments and corporations, etc. Lemmy is also open source, so there is also a strong do-it-yourself sentiment here. Lemmy also attracts folks who remember Web 1.0 when information was decentralized, with no top-down control. There are still users and whole communities that disagree with the majority of Lemmy users, but you have to look for them because they are in the minority and are thus not raised by the voting-based systems that Lemmy uses.
