I keep hearing about parts shortages at work all related to steel so out of curiosity I looked up why.

Tarrifs and AI data centers… MAGA! …

How can this be? Tiny-d donnie keeps saying we are in the golden age, with trillions of dollars in revenue just pouring in and it’s been so great and he’s going to apparently firehose all of us with (our own) money that is apparently just his to spend - if we vote Republican?

Are you saying that it’s not changing the trade deficit?

Trump wants the tariffs to reduce the trade deficit, and the trade deficit means the US spends more on imports than it gets from exports. Working tariffs would have reduced imports enough to bring them below exports.

Mind you, Trump has put tariffs on things there aren’t domestic replacements for, and he’s pissed off other countries enough that exports have probably gone down.

Okay so “effective in reducing the trade deficit” without any consideration of whether that is a worthy goal. Thanks.

Also, he has encouraged people in foreign countries to buy from anyone except the US, reducing US exports.

Fuck Trump, but it’s a bit early for tariffs to actually cause supply chains to adapt.

Many people have also already found alternatives to the US based products they used to buy without a second thought. Add that to the fact that most major US brands are a literal sickening blight upon the earth, and it’s going to be easy to stay away.
