Next time I’ll put an egg wash on them.
Which paper mill did you order them from?
Because I had super good results with this recipe, have a try with this:
For likeley unhealthy but tastier than McDonalds buns:
- 500 g (17.6 oz) flour
- 1 large pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 25 g (0.9 oz) lard
- 200 ml (7 imperial fl oz) milk
- 100 ml (3.5 imperial fl oz) lukewarm water
- 5 g (0.18 oz) yeast
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
…
-
Prepare the dough: Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add lard, milk, lukewarm water, and yeast. Knead thoroughly for at least 15 minutes.
-
First rise: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
-
Shape the buns: Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Shape into balls, flatten into rounds, and place on a baking tray.
-
Second rise: Brush the buns with beaten egg, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
-
Final rise: Brush again with beaten egg, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Bake: Bake at 200°C (392°F) for approximately 10 minutes, until golden brown.
Edit: The Buns are relatively big. If you want buns sized like those from McDonalds divide the dough in rather 10ish portions.
the shortening makes bread very tender
Maybe a sprinkle of sesame seeds?
They look much too good for McDonald’s
I’m doing McDonald cheeseburgers tomorrow for lunch so I wanted the unseeded bun.
wait! your not trolling!
I never am.
Sometimes people agree with me and sometimes they don’t.
i find that hard to believe.
So you’re disagreeing with me.
no. I just have a different experience in my observations of you in the wild.
Makes sense. I was thinking about next time along with the egg wash
Has anyone else ever eaten just a McDonalds bun. I found them to be quite vile, quite honestly the worst bread Ive ever had.
Yeah, worked at one. They are disgusting
When I was a kid and had friends that worked at McDonald’s. They told me about their grilled cheese which was on their secret menu. It was their cheeseburger bun flipped around and a slice of their cheese. It was honestly the best thing I ever had at McDonald’s.
I look forward to seeing the egg wash version. Also I clicked thinking it was SMCF, was not disappointed.
How did you know?
Anytime I see delicious bread I assume its you.
It’s funny because I know the username for them calling our a reposted on a few communities like mildly interesting.
Stay a while. I promise they have never tried to steal my kidneys, Charlie.
SMCF is a lemmy world staple at this point.
Thanks for getting the reference 😂
Vinyl albums, and some of the funniest troll-esque comments too. Probably one of my few regrets is that I won’t get to meet SMCF, because who even is this person?
I haven’t met him, but he’s pretty cool. One time, he didn’t bring me over to his place and just lectured me about Neutral Milk Hotel for an hour straight, then didn’t send me home with a delicious sourdough baguette.
Didn’t you have a good time?
I have to look out for their vinyl album posts. The comments are top tier. Even in the face of down-vote-storm like unpopularity SMCF stands their ground. Gotta admire ideological consistency.
Agreed. Eloquently put.
Here’s their latest vinyl post: https://piefed.social/c/vinyl@lemmy.world/p/2540566/eminem-the-eminem-show

Thx for sharing the important deets. In real units AND fahrenheit, hahaha. These look fantastic, really.
I tried my own buns 3 or 4 times for burger making, but I never felt like my time invested was returned on (tastewise) . Maybe I just suck at bread making. Maybe im a bread slut. But the daily baked bread on offer from even the local supermarket is already too good for me to compete with. Oh well, permanently one step closer to cheeseburgers <3 .
