Glad ljdawson is going to try to make this a thing!

My plan is to get an MVP out in the next 3-6 weeks.
What should make the first release?
Ha ha ha! Spez is really pushing it.
They really scared about Lemmy? Being so blatant about this shit… I have learned the following:
-
They do not like subreddits going NSFW it makes them no money. I for one welcome all furries and rule 34 artwork to Reddit.
-
They do not like people promoting Lemmy, any kind of competition gets them trying every tactic they can muster, playing all their cards now.
-
They do not like people deleting or removing data from Reddit. You know what would suck? A GDPR deletion request… That would be a real damn shame. No data to sell then lol
All these points are correct imo
They do not like people deleting or removing data from Reddit. You know what would suck? A GDPR deletion request… That would be a real damn shame.
Don’t tempt me, lol.
That’s how I left Twitter. GDPR request for a full copy of all my content. Then a GDPR request to delete account.

Looks like it’s not that easy
I just want to add that as a European citizen you also have a right to get a copy of all your data, and an explanation how and when this data has been used.
Also, I’m pretty sure that their response “you first have to delete your comments manually” does not comply with EU guidelines.
As a European it is an option for me
Read the update at the bottom. Reddit doesn’t seem to want to comply with the requests. I guess you could use a deletion script.
Then they are in breach of GDPR regulations. If they don’t comply I could see some serious fines heading their way
Wouldn’t they have to have some sort of presence in the EU? If all of their operations are US based (I don’t know if they are or not), can the EU really do anything about it?
They serve people in the EU so they absolutely have to comply. If you have EU citizens on your website then EU GDPR regulations apply to you.
I have done enough GDPR compliance training to make me want to gouge my own brain out but I guess it came in handy lol

i thought the nsfw shit was bad but my god
Oh god, the loss of Sync was legitimately the straw that broke reddit’s back for me. I would instantly pay Laurence for this
this is the way
I am ALL for this!! I was a sync pro user for years!! Miss that app now that I’m done with reddit.
Sync was Reddit for me.
Reddit dies in my mind when Reddit Sync is no more (I’m gonna patch it with revanced)
If Sync lives on in Lemmy, that’s gosh dang amazing
Jerboa is cool and all, but it’s no Sync :)

Hell yes! Sync was my reddit app of choice, and I will for sure migrate to this full time once it is out!
Reddit says r/SyncForLemmy is an unreviewed sub and that I should open it in their app.
Lmao what? They can’t even stick to their deadline and need to expedite the inconvenience?
Can’t wait for good Lemmy apps. The web experience has left a lot to be desired. The main feed doesn’t even have side-scrolling turned off. You try to scroll down on your phone and wind up pulling the page sideways.
Huzzah! I had only just voted earlier today in the sync subreddit for a lemmy app and already @ljdawson@lemmy.world is on the case. You rock dude!
Just hooked up messaging and username mentions.
Cheers!

Let’s be patient with this and not give him a hard time. For those of you who haven’t used Sync before, there was a major update a while back which caused strong emotions from many people and caused the developer to take a hiatus. Please be patient and kind and the result will be worth it!
I used it just some months ago and discovered the best thing ever, care to explain the drama?
It had to do with how the cards were presented and how the quick menu and swipe up/down worked. I preferred the previous way but the new way worked just fine. Just took an extra click to use it how I wanted.
It came down to changing how it looked / worked after everyone was already used to how it currently was. People get upset for no good reason sometimes and this was one of those times.
Yeah we need to leave that in the past and not repeat a fiasco like that. The community could have handled that much better. I’m just thankful for the support from lj.
Hell yeah
Woo! I may actually spend more time on the Fediverse. I was a RiF user, but I’ll happily pay for Sync and spend more time here too.
really excited for this. for me the death of sync is the death of reddit so sync for lemmy means lemmy is my new home.
Would it be closed source?
Good app, but with many trackers, and it wouldn’t work without Google services one day (anti piracy measure?).
I’d presume so based on reddit sync (monitization primarly from ads and iap). Apollo’s dev at one point made another app (primarly for killing amp links) that was paid and open sourced it, however he had issues with low effort copycats.
https://github.com/christianselig/Amplosion
The bright side of a closedsource app is in certain cases it can encourage faster development since the dev can work on it part/fulltime (idk how syncs revenue worked).
To be clear the post above is my personal view (I could be completly wrong).
Is this going to work for Kbin or do I need a lemmy account?
+1 to this, would rather the app supports logging into a fediverse server instead of just lemmy
Lemmy, kbin, Mastodon, Misskey, Pleroma, Friendica… They all use different APIs, and those APIs need to be supported separately by developers if they want their app to be compatible with all of them.
ernest is talking about changing the kbin API to be more in line with lemmy’s, which would allow apps made for lemmy to also work with kbin, but they wouldn’t, for instance, work with (or possibly even know about) kbin’s microblogging feature.
Sorry, i have no idea what this is. Anyone able to give me a rundown
Sync is one of the big mobile apps for reddit that is getting shut down on the 30th with reddit’s API changes.

Or, what if the app had its own instance in the future? Would help with onboarding new users to lemmy for simplicity (of course with the option to sign up elsewhere in app too).
I’d would just like the app to be able to create “Multicommunities” so I can bundle my /c/technology or /c/news communities on different servers in one thread. Yes like multireddits but spread accross the instances :)
I’m confident this will be a future feature.
