Last I checked, in all of those, the resistance tried to save as many people as they could, and didn’t think empathy was weakness.

Richest man in the world, with unchecked power in the government, thinks he’s the resistance?

it’s almost as if he’s a textbook narcissist and actually completely incapable of self analysis

That’s from August 2024. Then he didn’t have the same power.

I would love to know if he still sees himself as a rebell. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/42766191 Him leaving politics because of the left criticism suggests that he thought he was fighting the good fight.

I knew the resistance would win in the end for all of those. Real life feels more like Game of Thrones and we aren’t even the main characters.

The best scene in Star Wars was when Darth Vader was curled up at the Emperor’s feet crying and whining that he was the cool rebel really.

…Does he think that the Alt-Right is the Resistance? They’re definitely the system, they’re the exact opposite of Punk Rock

There’s nothing “alt” about the party that controls all three branches of the federal government. They’re just the right.

Yes, and if you pop into conservative spaces for a lurk, you will unironically see them saying they’re the real inheritors of punk rock.

This is what happens when basic political science isn’t taught, guys like Elon have no idea that socialism (the left) is fundamentally about expanding democracy to our economic systems.

Nothing this moron stands for is a rebellion against anything (except for maybe against human decency and empathy).

I realized just how dense this motherfucker is when he said his favourite book is the Player of Games which as an aside presents Fully Automated Luxury Gay Communism as the superior system (which Musk clearly bypassed or more likely never read). He just literally always identifies with the resistance movements without a hint of introspection or deeper thought because of his main character syndrome.

Musk does a better job at disputing the lie of capitalist “meritocracy” than most anti-capitalist critics ever could.

I never told CEOs were better people or anything but I thought that they were somewhat competent. You might not be the smartest but there has to be some abilities, right?

Elon made me realize how silly I was. Money. Money is all difference. There might be smart CEOs but certainly there are very very dumb ones.

Agree here. I feel like Elon Musk and his ilk shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy any of Iain Banks’s works, since they are ideologically so opposed to everything he’s demonstrated himself to be in favour of. But really I’m probably making excuses for myself – I just don’t like it when people I think are c***s enjoy things that I enjoy, whilst remaining c***s

Did you intend to write “c****s,” but the markup put your comment in italics/bold instead?

Formatting tip - if you put a backslash “ \ “ before the asterisk, it ignores the normal command to italicize/embolden. The markup commands on Lemmy are similar to those on Reddit (though not identical; Lemmy doesn’t break links as often as Reddit does.)

D’ya know, I did, and I was assuming the convention that asterisks wrapped in non-white space wouldn’t mark-up, and only now that you mentioned it do I see how it rendered. Thanks! I’ll edit

He’s the hero in his own mind, in the sense of: “I’m burning down society to the ground to rebuild it better for all! Can’t people see that?! Don’t they realize what I’m trying to do for them!!!” Of course he doesn’t have enough awareness to realize people can’t see that through the smoke and flames of everything burning around them.

America is literally the Galactic Empire. The Matrix is literally capitalism. The capitol is literally America/Capitalism. I didnt watch the others.

Villains rarely see themselves as villains. The worst of them strongly believe that they are the good guys.
