I don’t think clickbait youtube videos are a fair measure of American media reporting on China. Youtube is largely random users shouting into the void. They’re going to frequently exaggerate or otherwise spread misinformation on any subject for attention or even simple ignorance. There’s little to suggest it’s controlled propaganda considering you’ll likely find much more conspiracy critical of the American government than China’s.

Since you seem to have a view different than most people here, do you trust China’s reporting on itself more than that of reputable western media? If so, why?

I trust their reporting when it aligns with regional business news coverage and correlating economic data.

I don’t casually dismiss it as propaganda any more than I would dismiss the BLS senior leadership in the states.

YouTube has a pattern of recommending right-leaning and Christian videos, even to users who haven’t previously interacted with that kind of content, according to a recent study of the platform’s suggestions to users.
