Welcome to the Melbourne Community Daily Discussion Thread.
Alright, 7 hours after the issue with the electrics was first noticed, the sparky finally sorted it. Apparently in our main connection box thing (the little black box that connects the main street wires to the house) had a lose connection inside. Apparently that can manifest as crackling in power points, lamps flickering, fire panels making grinding noises, emergency lights going on and smoke alarms acting funny. And, I’m going to sound like a houso here (interestingly, urgent after hours repairs in state care homes are handled by the housing commission maintenance people too), but that was absolutely cooked in the head
But goodness, I’ve always been taught to be like really scared of electricity which I suppose makes sense, but then the electrician is just plodding around with live mains wires and poking them with plyers. That definitely did reassure me that I would’ve been safe though
Also I need to be up in 6 hours, but naturally I’m here removed on Lemmy about electricity instead of sleeping. Night peoples, and don’t fuck with electricity, unless you’re a confident sparky, in which case, poke away with plyers as much as you’d like!
That’s good that it’s all fixed now but seriously if your power board doesn’t have a safety switch please get one that does.
I think it does? I’m not sure, it’s a fairly cheap one from Kmart but from memory I thought that all the boards Kmart sold had surge protection. I wouldn’t really know how to find out, but I’m like 95% sure it does
It’ll have a little red button on it. It’s a reset button. You hold it in for a few seconds to activate.
I’m pretty sure it has a button, but I don’t think it’s red
One large filling achieved. Now I have a half numb face for a few hours.
Cat Tax: Mickey having a good snooze under the blanket by my feet.
For anyone who may require some brain-bleach today. 💜
Had a 10pm urge to strip my bed so I could have fresh sheets for sleep tonight. Exciting Saturday night being had.
A night in clean sheets?! Duuuuude that is exciting! Only way that could be better is a shower before bed!
Steaaaaaammmmmm trainnnnnnnnn!!!
Yeas and you call them Steam trains despite the fact they are obviously grilled
Buh dum tish
Underrated genius
It’s a regional thing
good night everyone, sweet dreams 😘
Ahhh when the world is falling apart and nothing is going right - there’s nothing quite like disappearing into an op-shop for a few hours and coming out feeling like a new person (or maybe that’s just me…)
twins
Back in melbs. I felt instantly sad. Despite tuning into my fave stations and patting the cat and getting that legendary 100kmh sign on Citylink.
That’s no good :(
hugs
Husband is baffled and jelly at the fact i went to bed four hours after he did last night, got up the same time as him this morning, did more strenuous work today for longer, and am planning on another six hours of totk while he tapped out for sleep at 9. Poor bubbah.
I have one armour piece left and all I have is compendium and kuroks 😭
I don’t want it to end!
Gotten the Tears companion app? Nice completionist run there. And i found a whole new slew of quests!
(Also when that’s done you can do what i did in botw which was get 999 ancient arrows so I could screencap and make a friend shit themselves, then started seeing if i could max out ALL inventory items…)
Don’t doo dat for too long onlies to fuck around and find out :)
Nah i need less sleep than him. Also i’m 45 lol.
totk is a strange way to write lotr
Nah i did that last weekend. Totk break to watch lower decks then back at it.
Geez, you are machine. Good job.
Was going back home after getting a haircut and saw the sad sacks screaming COVID is a scam and one said “getting the jab will kill you”. Was in half a mind to say “I’m still alive mate” but then realised A) it’s not worth engaging the fools and B) I’m super non confrontational.
On another note, my head feels cold now after the haircut.
Also, Queen Vic market is such a sensory overload!! Jeez
You know it’s bad when you can hear them over the falcon cam… eyeroll
About to partake in some of the city’s finest parma. Always a treat.
Here’s the US version of a chicken parma… no chips or bullshit salad… just a whole heap of pasta under it
BLEH put a nsfw tag on that jeeze 😱💀

Yeah! The UK also does it with pasta! I can’t remember if the chips came with it or if I ordered them though.
Looks like a big meatball???

Comicidentally I too partook in parma consumption, though I got mine in Ballarat. Slightly less of a treat
I’m all about the Napier Hotel.
We went to the sport globe or something like that. The first pub we went into didn’t even have parmas and acted oddly yuppu for Ballarat
They do a really good burger
no daily thread on reddit 🥺
😂🍿
Oh no!
She seems to have that invisible touch…
Is that you Phil?
Think twice…
Its just another day for you and me in paradise.
I got nothing to reply
Goodnight homey
whoops… didn’t realise the time. I’ve been playing Starfield. I should probably go to bed… then wake up and play more Starfield.
So, just like Skyrim in space?
More like “Bethesda’s take on Mass Effect” is how I define it.
I think the thing I love most about steam trains is how much happiness they bring with them. The people on the train obviously tend to be fairly happy, but on top of that all the people lineside who waited half an hour to watch a train go past for 10 seconds are all happy too. Saw a bus driver in Ballarat who had pulled his bus over and stood in the doorway watching us go past. We also ended up in a race with a Frankston bound metro ok our way back and it was a constant cycle of them pulling ahead of us, then us overtaking them when they stopped. Most the usually depressed looking commuters had gigantic grins on their faces waving at us at we went past. Many old folks watched us fly by while (I presume) reminiscing about the days a steam train was not uncommon to see, as well as countless young’ns watching us go past too
Steam trains really are the best ^even if they do have a habit of starting bushfires ^
🥺
If you haven’t already, head down to Queenscliff and hang at the Murray / Fellows Rd. intersection. You will get choo choo toots to the face 6 times a day :)
E: and many waves. Lotsa hellos.
