Imagine trying to economically punch Cuba in the dick, but ultimately just rapidly accelerating Cuba’s green energy infrastructure and helping them achieve nominal energy independence.

As a unitedstatesian who thinks the blockade is very fucking stupid, I am happy at the ultimate outcome here, as it will give our stupid fucking regime less leverage over Cuba, and diminish our ability to fuck with them economically for no good reason.

Above all, it is exceedingly heartless. The people of Cuba are among the poorest in the Western hemisphere. It is like robbing a starving man who has worked hard all day of his food bowl.

Great to hear this is happening! Cubans deserve a basic quality of life and I am ashamed of the behavior of the US here.

It is naturally a lot harder to blockade the sun than ocean ports. This perfectly illustrates how solar power grants energy independence at almost any level.

The days of global US hegemony are truly over, but that’s what happens when you have idiots in charge. The US was long overdue to be taken down a few pegs, though, and while I don’t think having any kind of massive global superpower is good for humanity, I’m interested to see what China does with that position.

Strengthening its ties with Cuba is an interesting move, and it just goes to show how the Trump admin doesn’t understand how geopolitical chess works and that you can’t just bully your way into global power with the barrel of a gun.

Truly, why hasn’t the US given up on trying to fuck over Cuba? It’s been 60 years, it’s not going to work. All it does is make the people suffer and hate the American government, for good reason.

Because there are (were?) enough former cubans who fled the country and want nothing more to see it burn, and their descendants, to determine the outcome of Florida’s statewide elections, including their 30(!) electoral college votes and 2 senators.

      Literally that’s it.

Florida has about 1.6 million Cuban-Americans, while Florida has about 23.5 million people total. Cuban-Americans certainly influence elections in Florida a decent amount, but I’m certain that’s not the only reason for the blockade.

I mean, it kinda just started working, after blocking the last trickle of energy to the island. Cuba introduced market liberalization and privatization reforms just couple of weeks ago, appears to be driven by the blockade.

Not saying the blockade isn’t horrible.

Also consider what would happen if the blockade is lifted. A deeply, artificially depressed economy would spring into huge yearly growth that would last for a while. How’s the narrative gonna look like? “Sanctions were the main cause of Cuba’s suffering. Socialist regime achieves incredible economic growth and standatd of living drastically improves since the blockade was lifted.” All that happening as socialism’s approval rating in the US grows and self-described socialists are winning elected office. If I were a ruling class American capitalist, I’d never let that happen.

Already saw it on another thread. These are actually missiles and spy equipment disguised as humanitarian aid.
