He kept Tisch as Police Chief and added 540 more cops. He won’t do shit.
Based Dimension Mamdani opens his newspaper, sees the headline and squints his eyes confused, “Arrest?”
All of New York should should come help out like in the first Sam Raimi Spider Man.
If you’re thinking of the train scene that’s Spider-Man 2.
I was thinking the 'You mess with one of us you mess with all of us!" scene from the first one.
Don’t be careful, he’s a demon
After uniting all of New York with that victory speech he gave at the Knicks parade, I can see this happening.
For real though, instructing NYPD not to interfere with protestors trying to block netanyahu is the best case scenario we could possibly expect from Mamdani on this, and even that is unlikely. He doesn’t have power here and it would cost a lot of political capital only to make him look weak when he loses
If I was Mamdani I wouldn’t arrest him. I would do a secret second thing.
He should call up an Italian plumber, he’d know what to do
Just make sure that no one bothers him at the exact locations that he’s staying. Like guys, you can’t bother an allied foreign leader that’s staying in room 524 of the Waldorf.
i know it’s probably a joke but do people really expect a mayor to somehow force the cops to arrest a foreign leader who is an ally of the united states which could be considered sedition? the US military will literally hang zohran and all of his staff in times square before they let that happen.
I don’t know I feel like if he ordered it and the cops refused to do it that would be preferable to backing down and not ordering it at all and the most likely resolution is that he orders it and then they book Netanyahu and then he gets out immediately and spends the rest of his life complaining about it which would be very funny.
I think there’s a problem that once you order the cops to do a thing and they flat out refuse, it lays bare the kayfabe. Maybe that would be good, actually, but it would mean zero credible leverage with the NYPD ever after. Would make Mamdani look absolutely powerless.
But if you don’t make the order and everyone knows the reason is that the cops might not listen to you, isn’t that having the exact same effect of making you look weak?
Now, Mamdani isn’t this guy, the fact that he didn’t purge Jessica Tisch on his way in proves as much, but the way a mayor is supposed to impose discipline on the cops is by firing ones who don’t listen to them and replacing the leadership with loyalists.
That’s why I called it kayfabe. As long as he doesn’t give an order they won’t execute, people can pretend the mayor has power over the cops. Once it’s out in the open, nobody can pretend. Replacing leadership with communists would be the same exact problem: NYPD is huge and the rank and file would revolt in every imaginable way. The system is resistant to fundamental change.
I think if it came down to the NYPD versus Mamdani, Mamdani would be able to leverage his support among New Yorkers to win. But again, he’s not that guy.
I don’t think he’s “that guy” either, but I also don’t think there really is a “that guy”. If the cops all go on strike or something, the governor (or president) would deploy the national guard (and not to break the strike!).
Some people do really expect that and if this comes to pass you will know them by their posting.
Sometimes you gotta take one for the team
Realpolitik aside, the US legal system with respect to states rights is pretty weird. New York (the state) might be able to do something like that legally if they can argue jurisdiction or something (not a lawyer) for example claiming injury on behalf of Palestinian New Yorkers.
They could try, but I don’t believe it would work out well for them.
If Mamdani gives the order and the NYPD refuses then the NYPD loses their political legitimacy as public servants. Once that’s gone they become nothing more than highwaymen and tax collectors, in a big city that hates them.
If they do follow orders and they get attacked then suddenly Mamdani has control over one of the largest armies in the world.
If Mamdani backs out then the last shred of good faith people have in the US state dies.
If Mamdani is martyred…
surely there must be legal mechanisms to enforce an international sentence?
We had a
now we need a
On the day he arrives every guard on Luigi’s block will be out sick.
DSA libs of hexbear, please don’t hold your breath.
Not a chance lol
Amazing how Israel can just flex its immunity and the Western governments will bend over backwards for them continuously
Isntreal: “We can do anything and kill anyone that we want to, and nobody or any laws can do anything to stop us!”
Western countries: “Wow, you’re so right. We love you! Come by any time! Here’s another billion dollars.”
just normal smol bean vassal behavior!
if he did, i think i’d lose my mind
Zohran is probably gonna die for this but he just got a chance to go down in history
Netanyahu is challenging Mamdani’s bluff! Is Netanyahu a fool for challenging the NYC mayor blessed with the Mandate of Heaven, or is Mamdani’s terrible reign of W’s about to come to an end? This is going to be an epic show down you don’t want to miss!
no more half measures walter
does he have any loyal cops?
Clearly it’s time to call on the Sliwa Revolutionary’s Brigades to enforce the People’s Justice.

Saw a clip the other day where he was on a float for pride
if i was less busy with other frivolous things i’d try to understand the mind of curtis sliwa

All you need to know is that his love for cats is only matched in magnitude by his hatred for Cuomo.
Sliwa sucks but the one thing he and Mamdani have in common is that they’re New Yorkers and nearly all New Yorkers hate Cuomo.
I don’t even think he understands his own mind
The fact that he is doing it as a challenge and Mamdani still won’t do shit is the cherry on top of the shit sundae.
