Fast lane is for driving at the speed limit. If the front driver goes by the limit, you hold no right to complain.
Do not normalize speeding.
Where I’m from, it’s not called a fast lane. It’s called a passing lane and that is its purpose. If you’re not passing someone, move the fuck over.
No lol
70 year old: But I am fast.
A strong character name can instantly give readers a sense of who they are and what to expect. Many writers visit www.1000names.com to explore fresh options and then tailor the choices to fit the character’s personality, background and role in the story. Saying the name aloud helps test its rhythm and ensures it feels natural within the narrative. Clear and distinctive names make characters easy to remember and connect with.
Fast is a social construct
This used to annoy me, but after realizing how many road deaths there are every year, I now see speed reduction as almost always a good thing. Driving is one of the most dangerous things people do.
On the freeway, good driving habits, like lane discipline, is more safe than reducing speed from 70mph to 65mph
Speed kills.
Just an example of a car pedestrian accident: at 50km/h the pedestrian dies more often than survives.
At 30km/h, only 3% dies.
I know this isn’t highway speeds, and the example is for the city, but I remember Volvo explaining it’s nearly impossible to die in their cars up to 70km/h (or close, like 68) but over that there is just too much energy at play.
Also how many seconds are you earning when slightly-speeding? Not very much if you don’t drive the highway for hours and hours.
Thank you for reading my ramblings.
You should do both.
I think you should still be annoyed. By riding slowly in the fast lane, you are not encouraging people to ride more slowly; you are encouraging them to zip around the lanes which is extremely dangerous too. Further, many people might see a need to compensate for whatever speed they lost and accelerate even more. I would say that it is definitely not a good thing to do, not to mention that I don’t think that it is even legal in my country
fast lane
It’s a passing lane, not a fast lane.
Came to here to see if anyone would point this out. Calling it a fast lane shows people’s ignorance.
It’s illegal to speed in my country
This is more dangerous than doing it the correct way
False, it is actually the case that collisions are LESS deadly at slower speeds. I know it’s difficult to wrap your mind around, but science is sometimes unintuitive!
Driving is more deadly than not driving. Stupid take
I was trying to explain this to the officer the other day when he caught me playing on my phone and not even bothering to hold the steering wheel
They’re less deadly, but this maneuver makes them more likely. Overall, it’s more dangerous.
It’s not if people aren’t speeding. You’re just victim blaming. If a car has low visibility and it hits someone, you wouldn’t say, well they should just get out of the way, you’d blame the low visibility. Same situation. If people were not driving recklessly in the left lane, then it wouldn’t be a problem that people are also driving normally in the left lane.
Don’t bother replying to this I’m not reading this thread anymore.
Ew you legit had a tanty cos people disagreed with you about your bad opinion on driving
Quite respectful disagreement counts as a “tanty” now?
but they ARE speeding. That’s why they’re in the fast lane. Parking there with speeders pointed at your ass is a bad idea, regardless of your personal moral stance on driving.
You’ll be right, but you’ll be dead.
If they are speedng then they are breaking the law. Just like someone being in the passing lane while not passing.
Yea, but you can do that in the slow lane. Some of us are risking our lives out here /s
Not very many accidents out in the middle of nowhere highways, although in my experience last holiday season there wasn’t a single jabroni hogging the left lane. Granted, I usually drive everyone back at like 1 am, so mileage may vary.
You’re absolutely right in the middle of the city though, and the number of people who get angry at you for not going 60 on a 40 mph blvd is way higher than it should be. I got honked at and a guy swerved around me just got both of us to get stuck at the same red. Those are the people who will certainly kill pedestrians.
The correct way to refer to the left lane is “the passing lane”
Get in it. Pass someone. Get the fuck back out. If you aren’t passing, you have no business in the passing lane, simple.
Passing lanes are only a thing when there is nearly no traffic.
As soon as you have enough cars it’s now a full lane. Try driving near any major city that gets stop and go.
Don’t care m8.

Fuck yeah trains! Three times the price of driving and takes an hour longer on the rare occasions where it actually turns up on time!
Tell me you’re from UK without telling me you’re from UK
Netherlands?
Three times the price of driving
Sure, because in addition to a train ticket price, you have to pay train fuel, train insurance, train maintainance, train devaluation, and when you get to the destination, you have to pay to park the train.
And the train magically drops you off outside your destination too, and totally not several miles away.
Speak for yourself, taking a train is way faster than driving for most mid-distance trips I ever take, and the money I save by not owning a car is absolutely massive.
Luckily, I don’t live in the USA. So that doesn’t apply to me.
Edit: Luckily, I also don’t live in the UK. :)
Neither do I. It very much applies to the UK.
Maybe you had a bad experience with trains on your area, but I move equally fast on train than in car (taking account waiting the train and fighting for a parking space) for long distances… for my daily routine i waist a little more of time xause i have to walk 1 km from the station.
About the price… yep, the car is cheaper once you paid the initial investment.
I pay around 240 us$ anually to move to work by train (4 km).
On a car (diesel, local prices, 6,5 L/100 Km consumption) i would be paying 147 US$ just on gas. On that i have to add fees, taxes, repairment and parking…
Conclusion: bike/motorbike besto transporto
Three times the price? Where you get train tickets that cheap? cries in VIA Rail
People on busses: “OK this trip lasts 2 hours, we started moving at 8:15 so by 10:15 we should get there”
Same people while driving: “If I don’t very slowly overtake this car that for the past 10 seconds has been driving slightly slower than I’d like to, I’ll never get there”
I think the people with this mentality are probably the same people who refuse to ride buses under any circumstances.
And me, I’m among the people who are relaxed on a bus but uselessly stressed on the road 🫣
Every video of someone getting cut off and brake checked (don’t do that, you are still an asshole!) ,I wonder if this isn’t exactly what they were doing.

Man… Drove down i40 (in the southern United States) yesterday. Those folks that just camp out in the left lane are infuriating. I have ticket money and “points” on my license to spend. Move over.
But apparently turning the wheel slightly to the right and back again is too much to ask.
My ex wife was a left lane camper. She would point to a semi a mile ahead and say… “I’m going faster than them… Why should I love over?” Meanwhile cars are flashing lights and passing her on the right…
One of the multitudes of reasons why she’s an ex.
https://www.ticketclinicgeorgia.com/blog/georgias-slow-poke-law-what-you-need-to-know/
if you’re in the left lane and notice a faster car approaching from behind, you’re legally required to move over to the right lane to let them pass.
Georgia isn’t alone in implementing such regulations. States like Florida, Indiana, New Jersey, and Tennessee have enacted similar “left-lane” laws aimed at preventing drivers from unnecessarily occupying the passing lane.
Where I’m from (somewhere in europe), you’re legally required to be in the rightmost lane unless you are overtaking. Though as you would expect, many don’t care.
Good. There used to be signs on major roads for slower traffic to stay right, but it was more of a notice than a hard law. And that’s the real issue, a law is only as good as its enforcement, and if everyone is doing all sorts of things wrong there’s only so many that can be pulled over at once.
You got a bumper, show them who’s boss! (It’s you! Ram them!)
This is like asking good questions when everyone doesn’t care about the scenario.
That “Keep Right/Left” unless overtaking rule is stupid. It fails as soon as there is: an off/onramp, a speed limit, more than 2 lanes. It causes cars to break other road rules.
Learn to merge. When the exit ramp comes and the right lane slows, pass in the left lane and move the fuck back. You know what happens when you left lane camp, road rage and everyone speeds up to zoom in the right lane causing a danger to everyone els. Because your ass can’t merge and feel you’re special to be in the left lane does not mean you’re right for thinking you’re doing the speed limit. If someone wants to go fast pass you, you’re not the traffic police to block them and cause the speeder to road rage even more. Left lane camping causes road rage and is unsafe.
It’s curious you’re so concerned about the speed limit but so flippant about breaking another clearly stated law about how you’re supposed to operate your vehicle.
Here’s one general tip - it’s your job to follow the law, not enforce it. The fact someone would have to go faster than the speed limit to pass you is irrelevant - you are supposed to be in the other lane unless you are passing someone or getting off the highway. If there are more lanes, the same rule applies - you should be in the furthest right lane that allows you to maintain your speed.
I’m saying the keep left/right rule on motorways conflicts with other rules. That’s why that rule fails
Found the American.
Don’t tell him that in some countries it’s illegal to undertake!
Not American. Yeah illegal to undertake. But go on a motorway and see the keep left/right rule fail almost instantly.
It’s illegal in a lot of the US too (depends on the state), but it’s never enforced
What other rules would be broken? I can’t think of one. Sometimes you have to adjust your speed. You should always be looking ahead to anticipate if a lane change would cause a problem.
The funny thing is that there is so much anxiety and rage built over being a bit faster or first in line, and yet most of the time all the anger at being stuck in a lane or slow is an illusion as the entire traffic mass is moving at the speed limit or higher. It is just your relative perception and you’ll still get to your destination at the same time.
The same thing happens in slow traffic. People spend so much energy trying to weave back and forth between lanes, almost causing collisions, only to stop a few feet again.
