Did you notice that the US was not involved in this conversation at all until @Subdivide6857@midwest.social brought it up? That the US is in fact entirely irrelevant to this discussion of blatant censorship and partisanship on Lemmy.ml?

This is a perfectly clear and obvious example of the whataboutism game that tankies love to play. This user should only be ridiculed for their transparent attempts at distraction and deflection. Otherwise, do not engage.

You bet, bud. The US is the reason for the disinformation campaign. The US is always involved in the imperialist game. That’s not whataboutism. You have these feelings due to the US. It’s not even difficult to sift through the shit. You’re lazy.

Spicy take! Let’s see the damning evidence, this’ll be tasty!

The US is always involved in the imperialist game.

Yes, that’s the spicy take, repeated.

If you happen to be on a troll farm in Russia, you’re in grave danger of being sent to the front, if you can’t pull your propaganda game together.

          You are awful at this.

Wonder in amazement as they spiral ever downward into the pit of whataboutism!

As not an american (there are quite a few of us) I find it extra funny with new layers of silly. Like I am somehow supposed to lose if america is mocked? Like if your not down with the CCP your waving a small american flag?

Making the whataboutisum comment attacking the usa is great as well since it demonstrates a form of american exceptionalism that they think everyone also believes in. And if they want to refute that they will have to defend america…

            Gold.

One of the lines I see repeated with every business cycle is “China is lying about their economic data”. Like, quarter after quarter, year after year, decade after decade.

At some point, you have to engage in a bit of meta-criticism. Why do you believe an enemy nation-state is secretly failing when only the lay residents of the rival power seem to be aware of it? What is your crystal ball and how is it showing information that’s more reliable than the Goldman Sachs trading desk or the IMF analytics department?

So much of the time it seems like Yeomni Park is the source for every American’s understanding of the outside world. And anyone who asserts a contrary view must be a shill, a bot, or a political extremist.

I don’t think clickbait youtube videos are a fair measure of American media reporting on China. Youtube is largely random users shouting into the void. They’re going to frequently exaggerate or otherwise spread misinformation on any subject for attention or even simple ignorance. There’s little to suggest it’s controlled propaganda considering you’ll likely find much more conspiracy critical of the American government than China’s.

Since you seem to have a view different than most people here, do you trust China’s reporting on itself more than that of reputable western media? If so, why?

I trust their reporting when it aligns with regional business news coverage and correlating economic data.

I don’t casually dismiss it as propaganda any more than I would dismiss the BLS senior leadership in the states.

There’s little to suggest it’s controlled propaganda considering you’ll likely find much more conspiracy critical of the American government than China’s.

YouTube has a pattern of recommending right-leaning and Christian videos, even to users who haven’t previously interacted with that kind of content, according to a recent study of the platform’s suggestions to users.

Contrary view isn’t purely praise and refused to accept the weakness of the country, which is the perspective you and the tankie definitely possessed. We’re just stating the obvious and calling a shill shill.

I occasionally shit on china while also praise some of their aspect, i do it the same way for all the country.

The reason Russia is a shithole is because of westernization. I feel you’re having a different time keeping up.

I wouldn’t say the Russia’s shitholeness has to do with westernisation. But, I can guess what was meant.

When the Russia became capitalist, almost nobody had any idea of the value of property. The factories became private property of their workers, but there could have been 1000 workers in a factory and people were like “what the hell am I gonna do with a paper proving that I own 0.1 % of a factory?!”

And then there were people who were driving around with a van full of vodka bottles. You handed out a bottle of vodka, you got a share. So, a full factory cost you one thousand bottles of vodka, and that’s it. Or actually, 501 bottles of vodka, because a majority was enough. And even less, because most people didn’t come to the meetings to vote, so you didn’t really need more than a handful of shares to start making decisions that helped you gain a lot more influence.

The Russians thought that if they just have capitalism, then everything will soon be good. And Europe and USA were okay with that rather moronic thought, not really doing much anything to warn them that they are about to crash head first against a wall. Also, I think that especially in USA there were people interested in seeing what happens if a country tries to go fully capitalist with no state controls whatsoever.

It’s a bit bonkers saying that is “westernization”, as there are many western countries and only one actually has a system even somewhat like that of USA. So, maybe you could say that the Russia is a shithole because of americanisation (one done horribly badly), and that’s almost surely what was meant with “because of westernisation”.

But indeed: In the 1990’s people in the Russia did those stupid decisions because they wanted to become a part of the west. And that failed. And instead of looking at what had gone wrong, the majority there just decided: “It’s the west’s fault! They did this to us!”

In year 1998 there was a huge amount of inflation, and basically, if you had enough money on your bank account to buy a house in January 1998, in December 1998 you were barely able to buy a loaf of bread with that money, as all money in the Russia lost something like 99.999% of its value in 1998. That was a horrible time, and the only year more horrible than that in the history of the Russia is 2026 (or maybe 2027).

russia as a constitutional monarchy: shithole

russia as a communist state: shithole

              russia as a democracy: shithole

I’m starting to think that the problem is russia itself and not the government type.
